Ford 300 - NASCAR Busch Series Qualifying Quotes and Notes

Casey Mears - No. 1 Dodge, Starting 1st "We were a little bit too tight in practice and we made some changes to help that and even though we ran a good lap, I was a little skeptical about being on the pole just a little bit because it was kinda a shot in the dark. I went out there and it got real loose getting in and then it got real tight and I though we ran that 60, but it wasn't as smooth as I would have liked it to been. Everything was in our favor there. We had a great car and the conditions cooled off there at the end and I think helped us a little bit and it made me hungrier. It was fun, it's cool, anytime you can run a lap like that and set a new track record, that's awesome."

Martin Truex, Jr. - No. 8 Chevrolet, Starting 2nd "We're gonna try to win the race, which is what we have always tried to do. But I think we can take some extra gambles if it comes down to fuel mileage or something like that. I think we can make some gutsy calls that we haven't been able to do all year long."

Paul Menard - No. 11 Chevrolet, Starting 3rd "We started off practice pretty good. We mainly made qualifying runs all day and we really wanted that pole, but Casey beat us. If I could have picked up the throttle maybe 15-20 feet sooner, we probably would have had the pole."

Justin Labonte flying over, instead of around Homestead-Miami Speedway prior to Friday's Ford 200:

Prior to tomorrow's Ford 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series finale, the U.S. Coast Guard will be conducting a flyover with two H-25 Falcon jets. Team Coast Guard driver Justin Labonte has been invited to particpate in the flyover and will be in the lead H-25 jet prior to the event at the conclusion of the National Anthem prior to tomorrow's Ford 200. Labonte was fifth in morning practice in the second time behind the wheel of the Labonte/Haas combined No. 44 Coast Guard Chevrolet. Labonte will be behind the wheel of the No. 44 Chevrolet for Labonte/Haas racing for the full NASCAR Busch Series season in 2005.
