MADISON, Ill. - Jimmie Johnson and the ALLTEL Racing team finished 13th in this weekend's CarQuest Auto Parts 250 at Gateway International Raceway. "Everybody worked hard all day," Johnson said. "The car was tight in turns one and two, but was still handling well. We had great pit stops, and that really helped with track position." Johnson started the event in 16th position, after the field was lined up by owner points, due to qualifying being rained out twice. He quickly moved through the field to sixth. Due to few cautions, Johnson had to battle with lapped cars on the track. He fell to 13th during the process, where he finished. "We had a really good car for this race, probably one of the top three or four cars," Johnson said. "We were very competitive. There were just so many lapped cars to get around in order to chase down the guy we were really racing. "We've been running in the top-10 this season with some regularity. Now, the next step is to make the move to running in the top-five. Realistically, that's where we need to be." The team heads to Brooklyn, Mich., to test for the upcoming 250-mile event at Michigan Speedway. Following the test session, they will head to Indianapolis for Friday night's Kroger 250 at Indianapolis Raceway Park. "It's not very often that the schedule allows us to move from track to track like this," Johnson said. "Our transport driver hasn't been home since he left for Colorado, so we're sending another crew member with the hauler to Michigan. That way he can get off the road for a few days. "Indianapolis Raceway Park should be a really fun race for us. I ran my first Busch Series event there in 1998 and ran pretty well for my first race. It's great to go to a track where I've got some experience. That gives us more time to play with ideas rather than just learning the lines of the track."
