Matt Kenseth survived a flurry of late-race cautions, a possible flat tire and the hard-charging car of Kevin Harvick to grab the win at Bristol Motor Speedway. He led 17 laps on his way to his 19th series win.
Kenseth made a bold outside pass to get around Harvick on lap 233.
"It was the only way to pass him," said Kenseth. "I tried a couple of times on the bottom and I just couldn't pass him. Kevin is a great competitor you know, he's not going to make it easy on you. My car just had such good stick on the restarts so I decided to drive it on the outside."
Harvick settled for second, "You always want to win. Our US Coast Guard Chevrolet was good tonight. I got into the 39 there the last time we pitted. Every since then we knocked the fender in and we were just a little bit tight.but it was a lot of fun racing with Matt."
Ron Hornaday was third.
"I tell you what the guys are so awesome," said Hornaday. "What a weekend. We were horrible in the truck, but great here. I am just real excited for everybody."
Kasey Kahne and Jason Leffler complete the top five.
"Our Monte Carlo was great on the long runs," said Leffler. "Strategy worked out good for us. This is like a win for us. I have struggled in every car I have been in here until I got to Braun Racing.great finish for us."
Ryan Newman brought the field to the green flag but the early laps of the event were marred with cautions. Newman became one of those cautions with just 55 laps to go when a broke wheel slowed his charge. Newman led 95 laps and raced his way back to a sixth-place finish.
A red flag on lap 213 halted on track action after Tim Sauter took a hard hit into the infield wall. It took several minutes for safety workers to extract Sauter from his vehicle but he was awake and moving when put on the stretcher.
The field restarted with Harvick in the lead and 35 laps to go. Cautions and plenty of them mired Harvick's progress as the laps counted down. On the restart on lap 233, Kenseth made the pass on Harvick for the lead.
Kenseth was slowed when a caution fell on lap 237. The field restarted on lap 241 with the No. 17 Ford still the leader but with seven to go a multi- car crash brought out the 14th yellow flag.
Kenseth led on the restart with three to go easily sailing to his first Busch series win of the season.
Kevin Harvick continues to dominate series points holding a 519-point advantage on the field. Carl Edwards, Denny Hamlin, Clint Bowyer and JJ Yeley complete the top five.
