EDWARDS SETS NEW NASCAR BUSCH SERIES KENTUCKY SPEEDWAY QUALIFYING RECORD
Betters Old Benchmark By 1.185 MPH

Roush Racing driver Carl Edwards returned to the site of his first NASCAR-sanctioned win and set a new NASCAR Busch Series track qualifying record with a fast lap of 181.287 mph (29.787 seconds). The lap is 1.185 mph better than the 2004 benchmark set by Martin Truex, Jr., on June 19, 2004.

Edwards will be the fifth different driver to start a NASCAR Busch Series event from the pole at Kentucky Speedway and starts from the pole for the first time at the track through three career starts.

"I didn't expect our car to qualify that well," said Edwards, who led the first morning practice session with a fast lap of 177.731 mph (30.383 seconds). "It was really good in race trim, so I'm excited. This is going to be a fun race."

Jon Wood, who took a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series pole award at Kentucky in 2003, will start second after posting his fast lap of 180.759, defending NASCAR Busch Series champion Martin Truex, Jr., will start third after turning his fastest lap at 180.361 mph and Joe Gibbs Racing driver J.J. Yeley will complete the second row after driving his fast lap at 180.000 mph.

Rusty Wallace will start seventh after turning his best lap of 179.289 (30.119 seconds), Greg Biffle will start 21st after turning his best lap of 177.713 mph (30.386 seconds), Sterling Marlin will roll off the grid 27th after driving his best qualifying lap of 176.010 (30.680 seconds) and Michael Waltrip will start 31st after posting his best qualifying lap of 175.730 mph (30.729 seconds).

Qualifying was delayed after Blake Feese went out 14th and turned the then sixth-fastest qualifying lap of 178.036 mph on his first attempt, but spun his No. 5 touched the wall in Turn 2 on his second qualifying attempt. He was evaluated and released from the infield care center. He will move to his backup car for "The Meijer 300 Presented by Oreo."

The 43-car field takes the green flag at 8:00 p.m.
