KLUEVER HITS THE ROAD AT VIR
CONCORD, N.C. -- Continuing his preparation for his first-ever road course race in March, Todd Kluever spent a day testing at Virginia International Raceway on Tuesday, January 17. Not only did Kluever gain the experience of time on the track, he also had a renowned road-racing veteran coaching him. Boris Said spent the day helping him learn the fine points of turning left and right.
Since Kluever's No. 06 3M Ford Fusion road racing car is not finished yet, the team prepared a car Carl Edwards used last season. They included a passenger seat so Kluever and Said could swap driving duties while the other observed.
"Having Boris there was a huge help," Kluever said. "It was very cool that he was willing to spend the day working with me. Between driving an actual Busch car and having him there, I learned a lot that I could not have learned at the Bondurant school a few weeks ago. The Bondurant school taught me the basics which was very beneficial, but Boris helped me work on the finesse of driving a car with a lot more horsepower and weight.
"We only got about a half day of track time since the track was wet in the morning, but we plan to go back in February after we get through Daytona to get one more test before the race in Mexico. By then I will have my actual 3M Ford that is going to Mexico so that will be an ever better test."
Roush Racing is a subsidiary of Livonia, Mich., based Roush Industries that operates 12 motorsports teams; five in NASCAR Nextel Cup with drivers Mark Martin, Matt Kenseth, Jamie McMurray, Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards, five in the Busch Series with Martin, Kenseth, Biffle, Edwards and Todd Kluever, and two in the Craftsman Truck Series.
