Duraflame RWI Racing Has Best Outing to Date

LOUDON, N.H., - July 24, 2004) --- The story of the day for Jamie McMurray and Duraflame RWI Racing in the Siemens 200 was overcoming adversity. After starting on the pole, McMurray overcame a loose wheel early in the race and contact with Kyle Busch in the closing laps to score a 22nd-place finish in today's NASCAR Busch Series race.

"We had a great run going today until there at the end," McMurray said. "I'm not sure what happened. I had passed (Kyle) Busch coming off the corner and the next thing I knew he hit me from behind and sent the Duraflame Dodge spinning into the back stretch wall. I hate it for Rusty (Wallace) and all the guys on this team. This is a first-class operation and they gave me a great car today. We definitely had a top-five finish going. We'll be ready for them when we get to Bristol next month."

After starting from the pole, McMurray quickly radioed the Duraflame crew that his Dodge was "loose in and tight off."

McMurray's first obstacle of the day occurred on lap 20 when he came on the radio and stated that he thought he had a loose wheel on his Duraflame Dodge. The team got a break in the form of a caution flag on lap 30 and headed for pit road. McMurray was serviced with four fresh Goodyear Eagles and fuel while several chassis adjustments were made to the Duraflame Dodge. He exited pit road in 17th place.

McMurray began to steadily work his way through the field and was running 12th by lap 58.

During a caution period on lap 63, McMurray headed for pit road with the leaders to allow the Duraflame crew to make more chassis adjustments to correct a loose in, tight off condition. McMurray exited pit road in the third position.

The Duraflame Dodge rocketed into the lead on lap 98 when a caution flag waved and the team elected to stay out. McMurray was credited as the mid-race leader.

McMurray would hold the top spot for the following 10 laps until another caution flag waved on lap 107. Knowing that they were in their fuel mileage window to go the rest of the way, McMurray brought the Duraflame Dodge down pit road for a four-tire stop. McMurray exited pit road in the 21st position as a result of a slow pit stop.

Now facing another obstacle, McMurray began to make his way back to the front of the field. He had moved back into the top 10 by lap 150 as the Duraflame Dodge was running ninth.

The team's final obstacle of the day came in the form of a punt from Busch on lap 162. As McMurray was exiting turn two, Busch tapped the No. 66 Dodge from behind. The Duraflame Dodge went spinning down the back stretch and made contact with the outside retaining wall.

The rear of McMurray's car suffered extensive damage and he headed down pit road to allow the crew to assess the damage. After numerous pit stops, McMurray was able to return to competition, still on the lead lap.

The remaining laps of the race saw McMurray fight a very loose racecar as he tried to maintain track position. McMurray accomplished the mission as the Duraflame Dodge crossed the finish line in 22nd place, still on the lead lap. The finish matches the team's best effort to date and was the team's first lead lap finish of the year.

The team's next race will be the August 21st Cabellas 250 at Michigan International Raceway, with NASCAR Premier Series Champion and 55-time race winner, Rusty Wallace, at the wheel. McMurray's next stint with Duraflame RWI Racing will take place the next week in the August 27th Food City 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway.
