LOUDON, N.H. (May 9, 1997) Quotes from the NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division's U.S. Cellular 200:

RANDY LaJOIE (No. 74 FINA Chevrolet) (Polesitter based on car owner points) "I think we're in good shape. There were a lot of cars faster than us (in final practice) but we were a very conservative 18th. This car was new at Richmond and we didn't qualify there (and he finished eighth). We didn't qualify here and we're on the pole again. We put on the same front end settings, the same gearing and we're gonna let it eat. (LaJoie's average finish in the last five races is 6.4.)"

JEFF FULLER (No. 47 Sunoco Chevrolet) (Fastest in final practice) "We've got a real good race car! We took all our notes from before and put in the same sway bars, springs -- everything. The car was pushing all day long (in 1996) from the middle (of the corner) out, so we completely redid the steering system. We wouldn't wish this bad weather on everybody, but if we always had a car as good as this --maybe!"

JEFF GREEN (No. 8 Diamond Ridge Chevrolet) (Second-quickest in final practice) "It seems we shine when we have little or no practice. I don't know if it's luck or what but this is a great bunch of guys to work with! When we have more practice I think it allows these other guys a chance to catch up. I would've rather started the race without ever getting on the track that's how confident we were... If we can keep all the fenders on the car and finish we'll be there."

SHANE HALL (No. 85 Luck's Foods Chevrolet) (Third-quickest in final practice) "I really wish we had gotten to qualify. Now it's gonna be one of those deals where, starting 27th, we're going to have to stay out of trouble, be patient and let the race come to us. If we can work our way to the front we'll be all right. I've run one race here, but qualifying wasn't held that time either, we started dead last and had engine trouble."

PHIL PARSONS (No. 10 ChannelLock Chevrolet) "I hope this (good-handling car) will last till tomorrow. At the beginning of practice the car was horrible. We made three changes and really improved the car. Having this practice saved our whole weekend! We would've been lapped in 30 laps without the changes we made. The track should have better grip tomorrow. It was just real cold and we had just dried it out (before final practice, the first seven or eight minutes of which were run under caution).
