REUTIMANN REFLECTS ON HIS-STORY
CORNELIUS, NC -- As David Reutimann heads into a busy race weekend, he reflects on the track that started it all, Memphis Motorsports Park.
"Racing at Memphis Motorsports Park in 2002 was turning point in my racing career," Reutimann said. "I earned my first career Busch Series Bud Pole Award there after qualifying the No. 7 car for Greg Biffle. After my run, I was able to say on national television that I was looking for a full-time opportunity. Shortly after, I received a call from Darrell Waltrip asking me to drive in the NCTS for him. The rest is history."
This weekend, Reutimann hopes that Memphis Motorsports Park helps the children of St. Jude "get noticed." The Aaron's Dream Machine and other NASCAR Busch Series cars will have a different look this weekend thanks to the "Race to Save Lives" program and the car sponsors. The campaign was created to recognize the children fighting for their life at St. Jude Children's Hospital.
"These children had the opportunity to design the Aaron's Dream Machine Toyota Camry and several of the other racecars for this event," said Reutimann. "The newly designed Aaron's Dream Machine has energy behind it. More importantly, I know that when all these new paint schemes take the track, the cause will not go unnoticed. It would be great if we can recognize these children in Victory Lane this weekend."
Aaron's Dream Machine Driver: David Reutimann Notes and Quotes
Pressure on both sides of the fence: Many believe David Reutimann only feels the pressure in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup garage. For Reutimann, both sides of the fence have it's moments of pressure. Most can see this on Reutimann's face prior to NNCS qualifying because for those outside the top-35, making the race is half the battle. On the Busch side, Reutimann's pressure is in the race.
"I may seem less anxious on the Busch side because the Aaron's Dream Machine is locked into the race. However, my focus is elsewhere on the car. Our team focuses on set-up and strategy. I approach every type of racing the same, regardless if it is dirt racing or NASCAR. The pressures will always be there, otherwise it's not racing."
Double-Duty: David Reutimann will continue another split weekend as his NASCAR NEXTEL Cup (NNCS) team will be at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Reutimann will fly into Memphis Saturday afternoon for the Sam's Town 250. After the NBS race, Reutimann will fly back to Atlanta to race in the NNCS Georgia 500.
Mark Green to practice for Reutimann: Mark Green will fill in for David Reutimann at Memphis Motorsports Park throughout the weekend. Green is scheduled to practice and qualify the Aaron's Dream Machine while Reutimann is in Atlanta for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series.
