MEMPHIS, Tennessee (Monday, October 23, 2006) - - NASCAR Busch Series rookie Dexter Bean will attempt to make his NBS debut this Saturday at Memphis Motorsports Park. Bean, who competed full time in the ARCA RE/MAX Series this season is getting a jump start on his 2007 racing season where he is expected to return to ARCA full time in addition to running an additional five to seven NASCAR Busch races.
Here are Dexter Bean's thoughts heading into this week's NASCAR Busch Series event:
You're heading to Memphis to make your Busch debut. Talk About It:
"It's really exciting. I've had a lot of success on the short tracks in the ARCA RE/MAX Series and I really think we're going to be okay on the Busch side. It's a stand-alone event this weekend which it will help us, but there is still a lot of pressure to perform and I plan to make the best of it."
You were one of the hottest drivers on the ARCA tour in the last four races, can you bring that momentum over to the Busch side?
"Man, I sure hope so. We were really good the last four races. I finished a career-best fourth at Chicagoland. Then we had a pole at Salem, finished 11th after being spun out inside ten laps to go. Tucked in a tenth at Talladega and closed out the season with a strong seventh at Iowa. I just want to make the Busch race, run some competitive laps and finish the race. If we do that, we've met our goals. I've got a strong team with guidance from Jeff Spraker and some steam under the hood from Wegner Motors, so we should be good to go."
You're a rookie, Nervous?
"There's always nervousness being a rookie. I'm going to be on the track with drivers like J.J.. Yeley, Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick, Reed Sorenson and Clint Bowyer. These are some of the best drivers in NASCAR and I plan to learn from them. It's very important for me to earn the respect from them. I plan to get behind one of them, follow their lines and try and keep up with them. We've been working around the clock to finish the car, I really think we're going to strong."
You've never been to Memphis, any hesitation heading into the Sam's Town 250?
"Yes, there is a little. I've seen the track, but never been on it. We can't afford to have any mistakes this weekend, so I'm going to take it easy and get some good laps in practice. We're not locked into the field, so it's all or nothing in qualifying and then we'll go from there. The goal this weekend is to gather as much seat time as possible, I think we'll do that. I've been real good on the short tracks in ARCA, especially on some of the newer tracks. I know the competition is very tough on the Busch side, but I'm up for it, I can't wait."
We're in Elvis Presley's Hometown, any personal favorites?
"(Laughs), Hound Dog is one of my favorites, and I'm really a big fan of All Shook Up. It's pretty to cool to be in the "King's" backyard this week. I don't think we'll have any time to do any sightseeing, but I hope to use one of his songs to my advantage and have the field "All Shook Up" on Saturday.
While he has no Busch starts on record, rocking into Memphis, Bean, a native of Westby, Wisconsin has 26 ARCA RE/MAX Series starts to his resume with a career best finish of fourth at Pocono Raceway (July 2006) and Chicagoland Speedway (2006) while holding five additional top ten finishes at Michigan International Speedway (July 2006 and July 2005), Talladega Superspeedway (October 2005 and October 2006) and Iowa Speedway (October 2006). He holds a career best superspeedway time trials effort of fourth at Pocono Raceway (June 2006) while hoisting a pole position in the short track division at Salem Speedway (September 2006).
Currently, the team plans to return to the ARCA RE/MAX Series full time in 2007, while adding an additional five to seven NASCAR Busch Series events to their venue.
