Engine Trouble Costs Green Shot at Top-Ten Finish

MILLINGTON, TN--- David Green, driver of the #37 Timber Wolf Pontiac, started 9th and finished 24th in the Sam's Town 250 at Memphis Motorsports Park. For the second year in a row engine trouble cost Team Timber Wolf a solid finish at the 0.75-mile facility. Green who was forced to start the race from the rear of the field after a post-qualifying engine change, finished one-lap down to race winner, Martin Truex Jr., after losing a cylinder late in the race. Despite the disappointing finish, Green moved from sixth to fifth in NASCAR Busch Series standings.

Coming off of a strong finish at Lowe's Motor Speedway, David Green headed into Saturday's race determined to make up lost ground in the 2004 Busch Series chase for the championship. After posting the ninth fastest lap in Busch Pole qualifying, Green was optimistic of his chances to have another strong performance. Unfortunately, a series of engine problems would set Green back even further. Just prior to Friday's final practice session, Green noticed that there was no oil pressure in the #37 Timber Wolf Pontiac. After a lengthy diagnostic session, the decision was made to change the engine prior to the start of the Sam's Town 250.

"We had a really strong car in the first practice session. The worst part about changing the engine is that we didn't get to make any laps in 'happy hour'. I still believe we have a good car, but now we have to deal with the slower cars. Nevertheless, this car is good enough to race its way to the front," Green added after the engine change.

Hoping the worst was behind them, Team Timber Wolf set their sights on Saturday's two hundred and fifty lap race. At the drop of the green flag, veteran driver David Green wasted no time working his way to the front of the field. By lap fifty, Green had raced his way into the top-twenty. Citing a tight racecar, Team Timber Wolf made their first of three pit stops on lap fifty-one. Green would restart the race in 24th place as a handful of cars stayed out to gain track position.

Continuing to charge forward, Green worked his way into the top-ten by lap one hundred and twenty-five. In what was to be their final stop of the day, Team Timber Wolf changed four tires and made a minor chassis adjustment to add "forward bite" on lap one hundred and twenty-nine. Unfortunately, Green's day would take a turn for the worse only a few short laps later. Without warning, the #37 Timber Wolf Pontiac quickly fell off pace. It was later determined that the engine had "lost" the number six cylinder.

Green would finish the event in 24th place, one lap down to race winner, Martin Truex Jr.

"Of all the tracks we go to, I cannot understand how we can have engine trouble at Memphis. This place is really not that demanding on engines, but as they say... things happen. Nevertheless, we had a really strong car this weekend, and it's just a shame that it had to turn out like this. When I look back on this season, I'm not going to remember the engine trouble. I will always remember the effort my team gave me each week. We deserve better finishes than this," a frustrated David Green added.

Next up, Team Timber Wolf heads to the Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Aaron's 312 on Saturday, October 30th. TNT and PRN will provide live coverage of the event beginning at 1:00pm EDT.
