MOORESVILLE, N.C. (August 23, 2000) -- Michael Waltrip is set to debut his new sponsor, Aaron's Sales & Lease Ownership, to the Busch Grand National Series this weekend at Bristol. Waltrip and his No. 99 Aaron's Chevrolet will run one of the most exciting races on the schedule this weekend, along with five other events this season including Darlington, Dover, Rockingham, Memphis, and Homestead. Aaron's has also agreed to sponsor Waltrip for 15 races in the Busch Grand National Season in 2001.
Aaron's is currently the primary sponsor of Johnny Benson's No. 10 Pontiac in the Winston Cup Series. For the 2001 season, Aaron's Winston Cup Series plans include an associate sponsorship with Benson and Ken Schrader -- team members of MBV Motorsports.
Waltrip is coming off of a 2nd place finish last weekend at Michigan International Speedway and returns to Bristol where he finished 2nd to Matt Kenseth. Waltrip believes this weekend could yield his first Busch win in the 2000 season.
"Last year I put two rounds in my track bar and if I had only put one I believe we would have won," said Waltrip. "I made the car too tight. The key to winning at Bristol is a good handling racecar. We have great notes from last fall when we ran 2nd. I know the setup without even looking at a sheet of paper. We will start from last year's notes and we'll make the car better as the weekend goes on. The team has high expectations and we have some momentum in our corner. Our focus this weekend will be to debut Aaron's in fine fashion."
Waltrip says the key to winning at the .533 mile oval is surviving. It's a long hard battle with 43 cars jammed onto a half mile track, but he's confident his Aaron's Chevrolet is ready for the challenge.
"We had a couple of months to get ready for the second half of the year and last week's results were very promising. Bristol is one of my favorite tracks and we tested very well (at Bristol) a couple of weeks ago. We feel sure we have a car capable of running up front."
The Food City 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway will be televised nationally by ESPN and broadcast on live radio by the Performance Racing Network. The start of the race is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Friday, August 25, 2000.
Aaron Rents, Inc., founded in 1955 by R. Charles Loudermilk, is a recognized leader in the furniture rental and sales and lease ownership industry. The Atlanta Journal Constitution recently rated Aaron Rents, Inc. 31st in Georgia's Top-100 Performing Companies with annual revenues exceeding $464 million. Forbes Magazine listed Aaron's as one of the 200 best small companies in America.
Aaron's joined the world of NASCAR last March by sponsoring the Aaron's 312 race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The "Dream Machines" driven by Johnny Benson in Winston Cup competition and Michael Waltrip in the Busch Grand National Series embodies the concept of allowing customers to buy top of the line products of their dreams such as RCA big screen TV's and CompUSA computers for $99.99 a month. Aaron's, along with their NASCAR "Dream Team", hopes to deliver racing fans’ dreams across the country.
