Barrett Talks Movies, Racing; Momentum For Both Milwaukee this week; Dukes Of Hazzard Aug. 5

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- When fans walk up to Stanton Barrett, he knows one of two things -- if not both -- are on their mind: NASCAR racing or Hollywood movies. It's who asks what where that poses some of the most ironic situations.

"Seems like if I'm at the race track, I get a lot of questions from fans about movies or stunts. If I'm at a more California-type setting or around Hollywood, they want to know about racing," he laughed.

Neither is surprising -- the award-winning Hollywood stunt man who drives the #36 DCT Motorsports Chevrolet in the NASCAR Busch Series is having a pretty solid year at both. They plan on continuing that progress this week in Saturday night's NASCAR Busch Series race at Milwaukee, Wisc.

On the track, Barrett is 19th in the national standings, but just over 100 points out of 12th-place in the very tight 10th-20th area of the series. Off the track, Dukes Of Hazzard is due to be released Aug. 5, and Barrett can be "seen" driving -- and jumping -- the "General Lee."

"The movies, the TV stuff, the commercials, all of the stunt stuff is a lot of fun," said Barrett, who has appeared in over 150 movies and television shows, including Spiderman II and his award-winning performance in Jurassic Park III.

"I enjoy that but I am dedicated to making my career in NASCAR racing. I've worked hard to reach this point and I'm with a race team and owner who are dedicated to being successful. We're going to keep progressing and keep moving forward," Barrett said.

Indeed, Barrett has moved solidly into the top 20 of the Busch Series standings with a team running a full schedule for the first time. DCT Motorsports was strong last year as well, finishing in the top 30 even though running a partial schedule.

"We're working on getting better every week. Our goals have become more ambitious as we've run better, but we think we can reach them," said championship crew chief Ricky Pearson. "Our goal is to finish in the top 10 every race, to get Stanton finished in the top 15 of the drivers' standings and to get DCT Motorsports in the top 20 of the owners' standings."

For car owners John and Nancy McGill, maintaining that growth is a major goal, and the only full-time car owners from Cleveland, Ohio, in the history of NASCAR's top three divisions are working with potential sponsors for the rest of the 2005 season, as well as 2006. McGill offers a variety of unique sponsorship scenarios for corporations. He has developed sponsorship packages that could incorporate the full remainder of the season or blocks of races. Utilizing his own business and marketing acumen, he brings creative and fresh approaches not just to team sponsorship itself but areas such as hospitality, cross-promotions and business-to-business possibilities.

Barrett, who is also running some NASCAR Nextel Cup Series events again this season, has been driving since he was 16 years old, and has competed on the highest levels of NASCAR racing. He is a native of Bishop, Calif.
