Harvick Earns 13th Top-Five Finish

AVONDALE, ARIZ. (Nov. 14) -- REESE'S Racing driver Kevin Harvick almost grabbed his second consecutive Busch Series win. Harvick led 50 laps Saturday at Phoenix International Raceway en route to a fourth-place finish, his 13th top-five finish of the season.

"The REESE'S Chevy was really good all day," Harvick said. "The caution flag at the end of the race really hurt us, and after the pit stop the No. 21 Chevy became really tight. Todd Berrier (crew chief) and the REESE'S guys worked hard all day and you can't really complain about a top-five finish."

A native of Bakersfield, Calif., Harvick started the race in 10th place, but it only took him 10 laps to crack the top five. He remained in the top-five pack of drivers from lap 10 until the checkered flag.

On lap 41 of 200, the third caution flag flew over Phoenix International Raceway. Harvick brought the REESE'S Chevrolet to pit road for the first time of the day. The crew made a small air pressure adjustment, changed four tires and filled the REESE'S Chevy with fuel. Harvick returned to the track in the third spot.

On lap 120, Harvick began his battle with Edwards for the lead. Edwards finally relinquished the lead to Harvick on lap 131. Harvick grew the lead to almost 12 car lengths over Edwards and Matt Kenseth, who were battling for second and third.

However, on lap 174 of 200, a caution period began for debris on the track. Harvick brought the No. 21 Chevy to pit road for his final pit stop of the day. Harvick returned to the track in the lead, but was unable to pull away from the field on the restart. Edwards passed Harvick with less than 20 laps remaining.

Edwards won the race from the pole position, becoming the first driver to win from the pole in a Busch Series race at Phoenix International Raceway. Clint Bowyer finished second, followed by Matt Kenseth, Harvick and Greg Biffle, respectively.

Bowyer's second-place run, combined with a sixth-place finish for points leader Martin Truex Jr., cut Truex's lead to 64 points with only one race remaining. However, all Truex needs to do to become the repeat Champion is to finish 12th or better, even if Bowyer wins and leads the most laps.

The REESE'S Racing team remains fourth in the owner standings, with 323 points separating it from Truex's team.

The final race for Harvick and the REESE'S Racing team is Saturday, Nov. 19, at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The TNT television network will have live coverage beginning at 4 p.m. EST. MRN radio will handle the play-by-play duties on your local affiliate.
