Huffman and Navy Team Ready for Phoenix International Raceway
Shane Huffman will drive the JR Motorsports's No. 88 Navy Accelerate Your Life Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS in Saturday's NASCAR Busch Series Arizona.Travel 200 at Phoenix International Raceway.
Saturday's race will be Huffman's first Busch Series event at the track. He attended the spring race with the No. 88 team in April and watched the race from the spotters' stand. The race is also Huffman's ninth Busch race of the season.
For the second weekend in-a-row, the JR Motorsports Navy team will unload a brand new chassis for the race at Phoenix International Raceway. The team will run chassis No. 025.
Huffman will sign autographs at the U.S. Navy's display at Phoenix International Raceway from 8:45 -- 9:15 a.m. on Saturday.
For the third time this season, Huffman will drive the No. 40 Key Motorsports entry in Friday night's NASCAR Truck Series race at Phoenix International Raceway. In his previous two races for the team he finished 35th after the truck's engine expired at Martinsville and 26th at Texas Motor Speedway.
In the last Busch Series race at Texas Motor Speedway, Huffman started 30th and had moved into the top 20 when a tire on his Navy Chevrolet blew out on Lap 64, sending the No. 88 hard into the wall. He finished 42nd.
Shane Huffman, Driver, No. 88 Navy Accelerate Your Life Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
"I'm looking forward to the race at Phoenix. I've been to a lot of tracks this year that I've never even seen before and Phoenix is one place that I've actually seen the track before. I traveled with the No. 88 team out for that race and watched the entire Busch race from the spotters' stand. It was definitely an interesting perspective to see the race from. I was able to pick up a few things about the track and the line to run there that will help us when we unload this weekend.
"I'll also be running the No. 40 truck on Friday. The additional seat time I'll be able to get in that should help the Navy team out tremendously."
Wes Ward, Crew Chief, No. 88 Navy Accelerate Your Life Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
"Phoenix is a cool track to race at. It has a lot of similarities to Gateway, which is where Shane made his first Busch start this year. He's never raced at Phoenix, but he has been to the track before. He's also going to run the No. 40 truck again this week. All of these factors add up to additional experience that should help the Navy team run fast right off the truck."
Navy Notables
The fleet honoree for Saturday's race at Phoenix International Raceway is the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). The USS Ronald Reagan is a Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier whose homeport is San Diego, California. The carrier, home to approximately 6,000 sailors, was commissioned in 2003 and embarked on its maiden deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism and maritime security operations in January. The USS Ronald Reagan's mission is to provide sea-based tactical air power for defense of America's right to freedom of the seas as well as the protection of United States sovereignty. It is capable of projecting tactical air power over the sea and inland, as well as providing sea-based air defense and anti-submarine warfare capabilities.
