Menard Chugs Home 14th at Phoenix NASCAR Busch Series Race

AVONDALE, Ariz. (Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004) -- Paul Menard and the #11 Menards/Peak Chevrolet of Dale Earnhardt, Inc., brought home a 14th-place finish in today's Bashas' Supermarkets 200 on the mile tri-oval at Phoenix International Raceway.

The 24-year-old from Eau Claire, Wis., started 22nd and held that relative position while fighting to get around slower traffic. He was 20th when he pitted for the first time under yellow on Lap 35, when the DEI crew made adjustments to try and correct a mid-corner slide condition.

He resumed in 21st when the race went back to green on Lap 38, and picked up six positions, sitting in 15th when he pitted for the second time under yellow on Lap 100. Two dropped lug nuts during the front tire change slowed that stop enough to cost Menard eight positions on the track.

Back in 23rd when the race went back to green on Lap 103, Menard again started picking off car after car on the track, finding himself in 17th when he pitted a third and final time under yellow on Lap 149.

He avoided a multi-car accident on Lap 195 of today's scheduled 200 laps, which sent the race into overtime. He was 14th when the dust settled after today's green-white-checker finish.

NASCAR Nextel Cup regular Jamie McMurray was the winner today, beating Kyle Busch and Martin Truex, Jr., in the final sprint to the finish. Next stop is next weekend at Darlington Raceway in South Carolina.

PAUL MENARD

"That was not too bad, I guess. The Menards/Peak Chevrolet was really good early on, and we were able to go racing. For some reason, we got really tight when we put on our last set of tires, so we weren't really able to make a strong run to the finish. Oh well. We had good pit stops again, for the most part. If we just keep pedaling as hard as we can, we're going to get one someday."
