BASHAS' 300 GIVES TEAM OWNERS A WEEKEND OFF
AVONDALE, AZ. - While most team owners are packing up and heading to the valley of the sun this weekend, Scott Glynn, owner of the No.58 Busch Series team, is taking a break from stuffing suitcases and will be enjoying some down time at home. Glynn and his family live in Chandler, just a few miles outside of Phoenix, Arizona.
Since February when Glynn merged with Akins Motorsports on the No. 58, driven by Rookie Brent Sherman, the travel has been nonstop. So far he has yet to miss a race from the best seat in the house, on top of the pit box.
In addition to keeping the team in line on the weekends, Glynn has another day job. When he's not at the track, Glynn continues to run his own thriving business in the Phoenix area. He and his wife Diana built Lariat Construction from the ground up starting with only five employees in 1995, today Lariat employs more than 500.
Developing another successful business out of his NASCAR venture is a challenge Glynn welcomes. Though he knows the road will be a tough one, he's got the drive to keep it going.
"We're a rookie team and I guess you could consider me a rookie owner," said Glynn. "We're learning but we also understand failure is not an option. Glynn Motorsports will be successful, because we have big plans for the future. By the end of this year Glynn Motorsports will be a well respected name in the industry."
But don't expect developing Glynn Motorsports to take Scott away from Sun Valley. Despite his Busch Series and Craftsman Truck Series ventures, the construction of a brand new shop in Mooresville, NC and a growing list of employees, Scott Glynn may never actually leave Phoenix.
"I've lived in Phoenix for 25 years, I guess I really can't see my self leaving. It's hard to go back and forth but we're working it out."
The 2005 season marks the first time the NASCAR Busch Series will race at Phoenix International Raceway twice in one year. The extra race is something Glynn and his family welcome, it gives them a whole new reason to call Phoenix home sweet home.
