RACE REVIEW:
Tim Sauter started the Bashas' Supermarket 200 from the 16th position after turning a lap around PIR in 27.496 seconds at 130.928 miles per hour. From the drop of the green, Sauter maintained his track position despite being tight off the corners. During the first pit stop on Lap 27, the AP Performance Racing Team made wholesale changes to the No. 19 Chevy to improve the handling. By Lap 120, Sauter continued to battle a tight racecar and brushed the outside wall, knocking the tow-in. Quick pit work by the APPR Team under the next yellow corrected the problem. Still on the lead lap, Sauter was poised to make a run to the front, as his No. 19 Chevy's handling had improved. However, for the second time this season, contact with Casey Mears sent Sauter into the Turn 4 wall. Despite feverish efforts by the APPR Crew, Sauter was forced to end the day early, taking only his third DNF this season. Sauter finished the day in the 36th position, and maintained 13th spot in NBS points.
TIM SAUTER POST RACE QUOTES:
"We were pretty good at the start of the race, but the car started to get tight on exit as the run went on. The changes we made on the first stop did not help enough, and we ended up being loose in and tight off during the second long green flag run. I was just so tight that I scraped the wall trying to get around Casey (Mears) about half way through the race. Our day just went downhill from there."
"When we pitted after I brushed the wall, fixed the damage, and were still on the lead lap, I thought we would be alright. The car was actually handling as well as it had all race by that point. But coming off four, the 66 got into me from behind. I don't think it was on purpose, but our day was ended early in a very crucial race for this unsponsored team."
"This is a tough end to what could have been a good weekend for AP Performance Racing, but we will just pick up and move on to Homestead. We know that we can run well there, that could be our last race so you can bet that everyone will be trying very hard."
