NEW YORK (Oct. 27, 1999) Progressive Motorsports proved that performance does translate into sponsorship Wednesday when the NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division team announced a deal with the Excedrin brand of Bristol-Myers Squibb that will begin this week with the Sam's Town 250 at Memphis Motorsports Park. Driver Jason Keller is having a career year in the No. 57 Chevrolet that have sponsored this season up to now by Fleming Team - IGA. The sponsors recently informed Progressive owners Greg Pollex and Bob Campbell they would not return in 2000.
"Adding a sponsor like Excedrin and Bristol-Myers Squibb is a great way to top off the 1999 season," said Keller, who has won a career-high $573,415 this season. "We have had a great year, but we still have an opportunity to visit Victory Lane three more times."
Keller, a NASCAR Busch Series regular since 1994 who scored his first win at Indianapolis Raceway Park in 1995, had been winless in the series since then. However, this season he has two victories and three Bud Poles and is seventh in the standings heading into Sunday's event on the .75-mile short track in West Tennessee.
Excedrin will also sponsor the No. 57 in the season finale HotWheels.com 300 at Miami on Nov. 13 at Miami-Homestead Speedway. The company's first full season of primary sponsorship will begin with the 2000 season opening NAPA Auto Parts 300 on Feb. 19 at Daytona International Speedway.
"This is the needed boost that the 57 team needs to become a legitimate championship contender in 2000," said Pollex, whose second car, the Kleenex/Scott Chevrolet driven by Jeff Green, is solidly in third in the NASCAR Busch Series point standings. "We look forward to taking Excedrin to Victory Lane, maybe even as soon as this weekend in Memphis."
