Busch Holds off Sauter for IRP Victory By Thomas Chemris

Rookie sensation Kyle Busch used strategy in the pits, and a fast car on the track to win the Kroger 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park.

Busch, who started eighth, worked his way into the top ten, and took the point after benefiting by pitting earlier than the top five cars. When the leaders came in for there final service, Busch moved up front and remained there to claim his forth win of the season. The win was not a cake walk; Busch had a hard charging Johnny Sauter in his mirror. In the closing laps, Sauter cut Busch's lead from six to less then three quarters of a second, but in the end, Sauter could not catch the Hendrick driver.

"Johnny Sauter should have one back to back races here", noted Busch, referring to Sauter second place run in the Craftsman Truck Series.

Ironically, Sauter, who dominated both the truck and the Busch races, lost the truck race by not stopping late in the race for tires. Arguably, he lost to Busch because when he stopped to get tires on lap 131 he fell out of the top ten, and used up his car coming through the field.

The Hendrick team was the defending champion of the event. They won one year ago, with Brian Vickers, who went on to win the Busch Championship before moving up to Nextel Cup. The last two Busch Champions won at Indy, with Busch 117 points out of the top spot, he is in a position to attempt to make it three in a row.

Finishing being Busch and Sauter were Jason Lefler, Martin Truex, and Greg Biffle.

Chance 2 driver and current series points leader Martin Truex started on the outside pole, was blacked flagged on the second lap for jumping the start. The New jersey native rebounded well as he moved through the field to score his second consecutive top five finishes.

The series has a week off before heading to Michigan for the Cabalas 250.
