BUSCH: Ragan Memphis preview

MEMPHIS - While preparing for the NASCAR Busch Series Sam's Town 250 at Memphis, Sammy Ragan joined other Americans in their concern for the victims of the attacks on New York, Washington D.C. and those who died in the plane crash outside of Pittsburgh.

"It was hard working on my Chevrolet while people were dying," said Ragan. "I especially felt for the families of the firemen and police officers who died. They are our everyday heroes."

Which is why when he and TDS Motorsports learned of a special fund raising event created by the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies to not only aid the relief effort, but also the Fire and Police Widows and Children's Fund, Sammy found his cause.

Ragan and TDS Motorsports are enlisting the assistance of suppliers, friends and mid south race fans in a pledge drive for "laps raced" at next month's Sam's Town 250.

"It gives me and the team a stronger sense of urgency to make sure we are ready and prepared," said Ragan, who will challenge for the "Rookie of the Year Award" in the 2002 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

The Grizzlies fund raising efforts began September 20 as coaches, players and staff gathered with fans at the Memphis Fire and Police Training Center to "pass the boot". The effort will continue into October.
