Stremme's Comeback Spoiled by Late Race Spin

Richmond, VA (May 16, 2004) - Team TRIMSPA driver David Stremme qualified eleventh for Friday night's Funai 250 at Richmond International Raceway. From the drop of the green he was tight under throttle. However, Stremme found out just how loose the outside lane could be on the new Richmond surface when he was hung out at the beginning of the race, losing 16 positions. During the first caution Stremme pitted for adjustments, forcing him to mount a comeback after restarting in the 34th position.

"The TRIMSPA team gave a solid effort all night," said Stremme, driver of the TRIMSPA X32 Dodge. "We had great pit stops and made all the right adjustments, something just was not right with this new car."

From there Stremme steadily climbed through the field to the 21st position by lap 142, after earning the "Lucky Dog" pass on lap 122 and a 15.8-second pit stop on lap 175. However on lap 188 Stremme's race took a turn for the worse as the No. 33 Chevrolet made contact with the TRIMSPA X32 Dodge, sending Stremme hard into the turn two wall and relegating the Braun Racing Team to a 35th-place finish.

"We chased the handling of the TRIMSPA X32 Dodge for the entire race," said Stremme. "Paul (Menard) got into me in turn two, but the track was slick and we were both struggling. Earlier in the race I had gotten into the 31 the same way. This was not the finish we were looking for, but we will regroup and head up to Nazareth to hopefully bring TRIMSPA a top finish in their hometown."

Stremme and Team TRIMSPA will maintain 18th position in the points standings, and be back in action next weekend when the Busch Series visits Nazareth Speedway for the Goulds Pumps ITT Industries 200. The race will be televised live Sunday, May 23rd, at 12:30 p.m. eastern time on FX and will broadcast nationally at that same time on radio stations affiliated with Motor Racing Network (MRN) and XM Satellite Radio Channel 144.
