Bowyer Leads First Day of NASCAR Busch Series Testing at Richmond International Raceway

March 28, 2006 - More than two dozen NASCAR Busch Series drivers tested at Richmond International Raceway today in preparation for the Circuit City 250 Presented by FUNAI on Friday, May 5 and while Clint Bowyer may have been the fastest, the wild finish and the aftermath of last May's NASCAR Busch Series race was a hot topic in the media center.

Topping the speed charts was Bowyer (No. 2 AC Delco Chevrolet), who posted a best lap of 125.406 mph. He was followed by Kasey Kahne, Carl Edwards, J.J. Yeley and Ryan Newman in the top-five. Newman was followed by Jason Leffler, Johnny Sauter, Kyle Busch, Jeff Burton and rookie Danny O'Quinn to round out the top-10.

There are many storylines heading into this race, perhaps none bigger than a little bad blood that spilled over from last year's May NASCAR Busch Series race at Richmond International Raceway. With Emporia, Virginia native Elliott Sadler in the lead on the last lap, Carl Edwards bumped Sadler out of the way exiting turn two. Edwards held off a furious charge from Sadler in Turn Four to claim the victory in front of Sadler's hometown crowd.

Despite being full-time NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series drivers, both drivers were on hand to test their NASCAR Busch Series cars in preparation for what should be a very entertaining rematch. "We've kind of swept that under the rug a little bit, but it's still in the back of my head a little bit," Sadler said. "If that happened again, especially here at Richmond, I think I might act a little differently. That's definitely behind us but I will react a little differently if that happens again this year."

Edwards visited the media center later in the day and said the two talked some more today about one of the most memorable finishes in track history. "I was actually just leaning on a set of tires talking with Elliott Sadler a minute ago about things last year in that race, and I can tell you we had been far from being a couple of guys just leaning on a couple of tires. That was an exciting race. We had great pit strategy and Elliott and I had a wild finish. We got together, I bumped him, then we bumped again in turn four and almost wrecked. It really was an awesome victory."

Testing "under the lights" was cut short by almost two hours due to rain showers. The weather looks promising for the final two days of testing Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a lunch break from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. and a dinner break from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with no on-track activity. Admission to the grandstands is free to all fans. The Richmond International Raceway ticket office will be open during the testing hours for fans who want to purchase tickets to the Circuit City 250 Presented by FUNAI on Friday night, May 5 to see the drivers testing this week race their way to victory lane. Reserved tickets are $45 in advance ($50 on race day) and General Admission tickets are $35 in advance ($40 on race day).
