Heading To Richmond, Gordon Stays Busy in May
Huntersville, NC (May 11, 2004) - Following another top-10 finish at Gateway International Raceway, the Fruit of the Loom Racing Team heads to Richmond this weekend for the Funai 250 NASCAR Busch Series race hanging on to the fifth spot in the race for the NASCAR Busch Series Championship.
"The Fruit of the Loom Busch Series car has obviously been competitive week in and week out, which builds my confidence that we can remain competitive throughout the rest of the season," Gordon said. "We haven't won any events yet this year, but we have been in position to win which is definitely a good thing. The key is that we are getting towards the front, so hopefully our time will come soon and we will get our first win of the season in Richmond."
May will be Gordon's busiest month of the 2004 racing season. Gordon will compete in four NASCAR Cup Series events, five NASCAR Busch Series races, as well as the Indianapolis 500, but being busy doesn't seem to bother the Cerritos, California native one bit.
"I like to stay busy and I like to drive," Gordon said. "I love what I do and that's an important part of life in general. At times my schedule is brutal and I don't have a lot of extra time, but I still enjoy it. The most relaxing time for me is when we race, that's when I sit in my office and can really focus on the task at hand."
With current plans calling for Gordon to race the entire Busch schedule, the Fruit of the Loom Racing Team will continue to battle for the chance to win the 2004 NASCAR Busch Series Championship. Gordon sits fifth in the NASCAR Busch Series point race, 93 behind leader Martin Truex Jr.
PIT NOTES
- Starting 32nd, Robby Gordon finished fourth May 3, 2003 at Richmond International Raceway after running three laps down during the race.
- The Fruit of the Loom Racing Team will continue to use Richard Childress Racing engines for all of the races scheduled to run prior to the 2004 NASCAR Busch Series season.
- Gordon was uninjured yesterday after losing control of his Meijer/Coca Cola Dallara-Chevrolet. The single car wreck occurred with 10 minutes remaining during the delayed Indianapolis 500 practice session.
