JASON KELLER Post Race Notes NASCAR Busch Series Victory at North Carolina Speedway
* First career victory at North Carolina Speedway and sixth straight top-10 finish at The Rock.
* Sixth career NASCAR Busch Series win for Keller, and his first of 2002.
The win boosted Keller to first in the NASCAR Busch Series points standings. He has never led the championship standings in his nine years in the series full-time. He is currently 30 points ahead of teammate Scott Riggs.
His margin of victory was an impressive 6.208 seconds. Keller took the lead on lap 124 and was never challenged for that lead during the remaining 73 laps. With the win, Keller has earned over $5 million in career Busch Series earnings. All six wins have come on tracks around the one-mile mark or shorter. His six victories include New Hampshire (1.058 miles), Rockingham (1.017 miles), Dover (1.00 miles), two at Indianapolis (.686 miles) and one at Bristol (.533 miles).
Coincidence? In Keller's previous two victories at New Hampshire in 2001 and Dover Downs in 2000, he was wearing a Hank Parker Jr., t-shirt under his driving suit. Four hours before the race, Keller and Parker Jr., were signing autographs on the souvenir truck and bought each other's t-shirts. For the third time, Keller was wearing a Parker Jr., shirt under his uniform in victory lane.
In 19 starts at Rockingham, Keller has one win, four top fives and nine top 10s.
The victory was the second for Keller's sponsor Albertson's.
Greg Pollex of ppc Racing captured his 24th win as a Busch Series owner, while co-owner of the No. 57, Keith Barnwell, captured his second.
Keller's Post Race Quotes
On the win... "We really felt after happy hour that we had a good car on the long runs. So we decided not to make any changes to the Albertson's Ford. Even during the race we only made minor air pressure adjustments. Steve (Addington) made some greats decisions with car, and it was dialed in from the start. I didn't realize until after the race, how big my lead was. Steve just kept telling me my lap times and Biffle's lap times, so I never let off."
On the points standing... "We talked about what we needed to do to win the championship in the off-season. We've proved we can be consistent and run up front, but what we need to do is put the Albertson's Ford in victory lane and that's what we did today. I've never led the points standing in all my years on the circuit. I know that I'm now the guy they're gunning for and I'm looking forward to that challenge."
