ACDelco 200 Saturday notebook By Shawn A. Akers NASCAR Online ROCKINGHAM, N.C. (Oct. 31, 1998) Some notes and quotes Saturday from the NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division ACDelco 200 at North Carolina Speedway: Mike Dillon has gotten exactly what he wanted. The veteran NASCAR Busch Series driver has signed on as the driver of the No. 59 Kingsford/Matchlight Chevrolet of ST Motorsports and owner Tad Geschickter, beginning in 1999. "I took that ride because they asked," said Dillon, who will end his stint with the No. 72 Detroit Gasket Chevrolet team at the end of this season. "That's the ride I wanted all along. I've always been impressed with Tad Geschickter as a car owner. He's a full-time owner. He puts his heart and soul into the race team. If the team doesn't make it, he doesn't make it. You have to appreciate a man who's willing to put himself on the line like that. He reminds me of my father-in-law, Richard Childress." Dillon replaces Robert Pressley, who split his duties between the NASCAR Busch Series and the NASCAR Winston Cup series in 1998. Geschickter has been forced to use eight different drivers in his car this season. Dillon has fielded several other offers since it was announced that he would not be returning to the seat of the No. 72 Chevrolet next season. He is still searching for his first NASCAR Busch Series victory after 84 starts (85, including Saturday's AC/Delco 200). He has 2 top-five and six top-10 finishes in 1998.

Pressley celebrated a milestone today when he rolled off the starting line for the ACDelco 200. The driver of the No. 59 Kingsford/Matchlight/Alltel Communications Chevrolet, who started 11th, made his 200th career NASCAR Busch Series start. "When you get into this business, you never think about milestones," Pressley said. "All you think about is racing and winning. When you make 200 starts in a division as prestigious and difficult as the Busch Series, it says a lot about your resolve to succeed. "I've been blessed to be part of some really great race teams, and I've had the pleasure to drive some fantastic cars. The best way to celebrate 200 races is to mark it with an exclamation point -- a win." Pressley began his NASCAR Busch Series career in 1984. He's racked up 10 wins and six Bud Poles.

With his Bud Pole Award on Friday, his second of the 1998 season and the second of his NASCAR Busch Series career, Tony Stewart became the 18th consecutive different Bud Pole winner in the NASCAR Busch Series. That streak began when Bobby Labonte earned the top starting spot for the MBNA Platinum 200 at Dover Downs back in late May. Stewart earned his other Bud Pole at the same race track, North Carolina Speedway, back in February.

Nobody has won more than three Bud Poles in the NASCAR Busch Series this season. Dale Earnhardt Jr. leads the way with three Bud Poles in 30 events. Stewart, Pressley, Jeff Burton and Mike McLaughlin all have two Bud Poles each in 1998, while 18 others have one Bud Pole apiece this season.

Prior to today's race, Andy Santerre continued to lead the chase for the NASCAR Busch Series Raybestos Rookie of the Year Award. Santerre had 1,711 points heading into the ACDelco 200, followed by Wayne Grubb with 1,485 points, Dave Blaney with 1,465 and Kevin Grubb with 1,345.
