Scott Riggs in the hunt for two titles as he returns to MIS.
BROOKLYN, Mich. - Scott Riggs recently spent two days at Michigan International Speedway testing for the August 17 Cabela's 250 NASCAR Busch Series event. The rookie from Bahama, North Carolina will be making his first start at MIS in the NASCAR Busch Series next weekend. Riggs only previous start at MIS came in the 2000 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race.
While testing at MIS August 6 - 7, Riggs admitted his team had been in a slump the last few races, but is confident they can regain the momentum needed to propel them forward in the series point standings.
"We found ourselves in the middle of the year and bad things were happening, unfortunate luck things, yet we've had good race cars," stated Riggs. "Things have not been going our way and put us down, but we're definitely still on our game. I feel like we're in good shape but we need a little luck on our side. If we keep our head in the game and stay focused on what our job is right now, be consistent and stay in the top-five each week then the points championship and the rookie chase will all fall into place."
Riggs currently sits fourth in the Busch Series point standings and leads the Rookie-of-the-Year battle by 54 points over Johnny Sauter.
"One of our goals at the beginning of the year was to win the Rookie-of-the-Year Title, but at the same time you have to look at the kind of team I'm driving for," Riggs said. "We definitely have higher goals than just rookie-of-the year. The guys on the #10 team are used to winning championships and that's what we've been doing is to try and stay in the chase for the championship."
The #10 Nestle' Nesquik team won the Busch Series championship with driver Jeff Green in 2000 and Riggs believes the Cabela's 250 at MIS will be their shot to get "Lady Luck" back on their side and post solid finishes the remainder of the season.
"Michigan is my kind of racetrack," exclaimed Riggs. "I love the two-mile racetracks, we have a great program, great bodies and great guys building the cars back at the shop so every time we go to one of these tracks we're always in the hunt to win. We won at California, which I feel like is the most similar track to MIS, and by being able to practice here, I feel really good about our cars, so I feel like we have a good shot to come back here next week and win."
Reserved seats are still available for the Cabela's 250 by calling the Michigan International Speedway Ticket Office (1-800-354-1010 or 517-592-6672) or by going on-line at www.MISpeedway.com. General Admission (infield) tickets for Sunday's race go on sale Sunday morning at 6 a.m. at the tunnel entrance and at 8 a.m. at other Speedway ticket offices.
