Sauter expects to have the goods at Talladega.

TALLADEGA, AL (April 20, 2002) - In Tim Sauter's first and only visit to the 2.66-mile Talladega Superspeedway, the driver of the No. 19 AP Performance Chevrolet posted a career-best seventh-place qualifying effort and a 15th-place finish in the Subway 300.

"At Talladega you kind of just got what you got," said Sauter. "Last year I had an exceptional speedway car so I ran well at Talladega and Daytona. At Talladega, we were in the Top 15 all day but we got caught up in the big wreck at the end. However we managed not to loose a lap and that helped me get a decent finish. Daytona didn't go well for us this year. We just got caught up in somebody else's wreck, but we have hung a new body on that car since then and expect it to be better at Talladega."

Sauter is coming of a quality performance in Pepsi 300 at Nashville Superspeedway where he started 14th and finished 10th. For the second week in a row, Sauter's AP Performance Racing team managed to secure a single-event sponsorship when Loctite came on board. To top things off Sauter made his first start of the season and only the second of his NBS career alongside his two brothers - Jay and Johnny.

"That finish felt great and we had a lot of fun. The Loctite Chevy Team needed it for morale on the road and back at the shop," said the Necedah, WI native. "They've been knocking themselves out trying to get the speedway car ready for Talladega and still be prepared for California. This is just another glimpse of what we are capable of."

At Talladega, AP Performance will take a second turn with new crew chief, Bobby Bakeeff. Bakeeff's efforts, after coming over from Reiser Enterprises where he served as a car chief for Matt Kenseth's NBS entry, has Sauter 15th in the championship standings after seventh events.

"At Talladega, you will do well if the car is aerodynamically balanced and your restrictor plate motor is solid," said Sauter. "The Talladega track is so wide that if your car is tight, you can just keep floating out towards the wall and you won't lose any momentum. Handling at Talladega is a much bigger issue than it is at Daytona."

Sauter and his No. 19 AP Performance Chevrolet Monte Carlo take the green flag in the Aaron's 312 at Talladega Superspeedway Saturday, April 20, at 2 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The event will broadcast live on FOX Television and MRN Radio will broadcast the race worldwide on more than 300 affiliated stations.

ABOUT AP PERFORMANCE RACING: AP Performance Racing debuted in 1992 as an American Speed Association entry with team owner Alec Pinsonneault as the driver. The Windsor, Ontario based team notched 16 ASA victories and a pair of division titles with Tim Sauter (1999) and Johnny Sauter (2001) delivering the championship trophies. Now housed in a state of the art facility in Mooresville, NC, AP Performance Racing will field a full-time NASCAR Busch Series effort in 2002 with Tim Sauter again handling the driving chores.
