Remembering A Friend-- Adam Petty will be remembered by fellow NASCAR drivers Lyndon Amick and Ken Schrader at Wednesday's ARCA / Bondo Mar-Hyde EasyCare Vehicle Service Contracts 100 race at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

The No. 99 ARCA (Automobile Racing Club of America) entry, owned by Schrader and driven by Amick, will carry special decals in memory of Petty, the 19 year-old driver who lost his life in a racing accident earlier this year at New Hampshire International Raceway.

Amick says the tribute is meant to not only honor Petty's memory, but also to commemorate Petty winning in his very first ARCA start, which came at Lowe's Motor Speedway just over two years ago. By winning that race at the age of 18 years and three months, Petty became the youngest driver to ever claim a victory in an ARCA event.

"Ken (Schrader) and I want this to be a celebration of Adam and his accomplishments," said Amick. "We want people to think of Adam standing in Victory Lane two years ago with his family, grinning from ear to ear after winning his first ARCA race. We believe that's the way he'd want to be remembered."

Wednesday's event will mark the second time this year that Amick and Schrader have teamed up to honor their fallen friend. Just as it did in the May 19 ARCA event at Lowe's Motor Speedway, the No. 99 will display a special phone number (1-888-45-PETTY) that fans and friends can call to make donations to the Adam Petty Memorial Fund.

A New Attitude-- Failing to qualify in four out of his previous six attempts at Lowe's Motor Speedway, it's understandable that the 1.5-mile quad-oval might not have been at the top of Lyndon Amick's list of favorite tracks. After scoring a win in the May 19 ARCA race and an 11th place finish in the May 27 Busch race, Amick says his opinion of the facility has risen quite a bit.

"It's not that I didn't care for this race track," Amick says, "it's more like the race track didn't care for me. I've always enjoyed coming here; I just never had much success. Now we feel like we know what to do to qualify, and with 60 cars trying to make the field, that's crucial. The ARCA win gave me a lot of confidence coming in to the Busch race back in May, and the 11th place finish in the Busch race gives me a lot of confidence as we come back here. If we keep running here like we did in the spring, this track could move up my list of favorites fairly quickly."

Looking Ahead-- The Team Amick engine program, considered by some to be one of the strongest in the Busch garage, tackled a different animal when they were asked to build motors for the No. 99 Schrader / Amick entry and the No. 88 Jason Jarrett entry that will run in Wednesday's ARCA / Bondo Mar-Hyde event. The May 19 ARCA race at Charlotte was the first time that the engine department, led by veteran engine builder Hayden "Bo" Montgomery, had ever attempted to build a 12:1 compression motor in-house. The No. 99 won that race, and the No. 88 and No. 99 qualified third and 12th, respectively, for the October 4 ARCA event. The Team Amick engine department is encouraged by the results so far, to say the least.

Roughing It? -- Lyndon Amick and fellow Busch competitor, Hank Parker, Jr., used their off-weekend to go camping with some friends in North Carolina. While the entire crew did bring tents to sleep in, apparently the thought of campfire cuisine didn't appeal to Amick, who chose to take most of his meals at a nearby McDonald's restaurant.
