Richardson Set for Double-Duty at Home Track
Robert Richardson will attempt to make it a double duty weekend at his home track of Texas Motor Speedway this weekend as the 24-year old McKinney, Texas native will race in Friday night's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race and attempt to qualify for his career first NASCAR Busch Series race on Saturday. Richardson will pilot the No. 1 Kinky Friedman for Governor Chevrolet Silverado in the Silverado 350k Friday evening where he will attempt to better his career-best NCTS finish of 16th which he earned earlier this season at the Talladega Superspeedway.
"It is going to be a pretty crazy weekend here at Texas," said Richardson. "I have never been in a situation where I have to go between two race vehicles and make sure that I get qualified into the NASCAR Busch Series race. There is a lot of pressure with the Kinky Friedman sponsorship on board for both races along with having so many family and friends here to see us race. But I also know there is a lot of support when we come to Texas which drives me to go after a top-15 finish in the truck race and make my NBS debut here on Saturday."
Texas Motor Speedway is a home track for Richardson for more than just the fact that he resides an hour from the speedway. Only five years ago Richardson made his first laps in a race car around the Lil' Texas Motor Speedway in a Legends race car where he later earned the Lone Star Championship. As Richardson moved into the ROMCO Super Late Model Series, he was able to visit victory lane on the 1.5-mile Texas Motor Speedway in the spring of 2004. When Richardson made the move into the ranks of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 2005, he chose Texas Motor Speedway to make that debut one year ago. Now Richardson is working to take his career to the next level of the NASCAR Busch Series where he once again returns home to TMS to attempt that debut.
"Texas Motor Speedway has been a real special track for me throughout my career," said Richardson. "I started my career here at 'lil TMS in the legends car and pretty much every major step of my racing career has taken place here at the speedway. Now that we are expanding into the Busch Series, it seemed only right to try to make my first start right here at home and I know it would mean a lot to our whole team to take the green flag here on Saturday afternoon."
