SHANE HMIEL AND THE WINFUEL TEAM LOOK TO ROUNDUP A VICTORY IN THE LONE STAR STATE
MOORESVILLE, NC (April 12, 2005) -- Shane Hmiel is used to being in the media, but not nearly as much as he has in the days following the Sharpie 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Hmiel has been the subject of much debate and controversy resulting from a late race incident and altercation with Dale Jarrett.
"I'm looking forward to getting back in the #32 WINFUEL Chevy this weekend at Texas," Hmiel said. "I would like to put the incident that occurred at Bristol behind us so we can all go forward in a positive manner. My team has filed an appeal with NASCAR regarding the penalties that were assessed and we will make the best presentation that we can. Like we said before, whatever the decision is, we will respect it and move on with the rest of our season."
The NASCAR Busch Series enjoyed the first off-weekend of the season this past weekend, after a tough seven race stretch that kicked off the 2005 season. Leading into the off-weekend, Shane had the chance to travel to Texas a week early to promote the upcoming O'Reilly 300.
"We had a really good day in Texas last Thursday," Hmiel explained. "Justin Labonte and I had the opportunity to come out the track early to take some media members for rides around the track. We also stopped by to be guests on the Pugs & Kelly radio show, which was the most fun I've had doing radio. Finally, we went out to the American Airlines arena to sign autographs at the Nextel Experience and to see the basketball game. Texas Motor Speedway and NASCAR really did a good job of putting together fun things to promote the upcoming race."
The first break of the season gave the WINFUEL team a chance to assess their up and down season thus far. In seven races, Hmiel and the #32 WINFUEL team captured three top-5's, one top-15, and suffered three finishes of 35th or lower. This weekend Hmiel hopes to build on his previous success at Texas in both the Busch and Craftsman Truck series.
"I really like Texas Motor Speedway," Shane said. "It seems like the track gets better and better every time we go back to race there. I ran third in the Busch race at Texas in 2003, and I'm really excited about taking the WINFUEL Chevrolet there this year."
"We're taking chassis #06, which is my favorite car, and I really think we should be good all weekend," Hmiel stated. "Hopefully we will unload fast and it will give us an opportunity to try some things during practice. This car has been good to us this year, and my WINFUEL guys have worked really hard to turn it around and get it ready to race at Texas."
It's said that everything is bigger and better in Texas, so you don't want to miss any of the action as the NASCAR Busch Series heads to Ft. Worth. Live coverage of the O'Reilly 300 from Texas Motor Speedway begins the Saturday on FOX at 2:00 p.m. EST.
