Todd Bodine Tops The Two Million Dollar Mark In Career Busch Series Earnings

HARRISBURG, N.C. --- Todd Bodine is the most recent driver to crack the two million dollar mark in career earnings in the NASCAR Busch Series, Grand National Division. With his third-place finish in the "MBNA Platinum 200" at Dover Downs International Speedway, the driver of the Phillips 66 Chevrolet won $25,340 in win money to bring his career total to $2,013,501. That makes him only the fifth active Busch Series driver to top the $2 million mark in career earnings. "It's kind of funny because when I look back at the end of the season what I remember most are the wins and the points battle," Bodine said. "When you compete week in and week out you usually get asked questions like 'where did you finish' and 'where are you in the points now?' Rarely does someone ask you 'how much money did you win?' That's one of the things that's so great about racing. We do this because we love it. We'd probably be doing it even if there were no money in it. "But that isn't to say that we don't want the money," Bodine grinned. "It's pretty rewarding when you have a good weekend at the track and you get that check with all those digits." Bodine started competing in the NASCAR Busch Series in 1990, running seven races in a car owned by Ted Conder. In 1991, Bodine competed on the circuit full time with his current car owners Frank Cicci and Scott and Jeff Welliver. Including the 1999 season, Bodine has been a full-time competitor in the NASCAR Busch Series for six seasons. Since he started racing in 1990, Bodine has made at least one Busch Series start in each of the last 10 seasons. Bodine says the numerous changes in the Busch Series throughout the last nine years makes it possible for drivers to have successful and financially rewarding careers. "It's been such a long time since I started Busch racing that you kind of lose track of career money totals and things like that," Bodine said. "I've been competing in the Busch Series on a full-time and part-time basis since 1990. There's been a lot of changes. With the extra support Anheuser-Busch is contributing to our series, you can now top the $2 million mark in two seasons." -- continued -- Todd Bodine Tops The Two Million Dollar Mark Page 2 In addition to being the track where Bodine topped the $2 million mark in career Busch Series earnings, Dover is also the track where he scored his first career win. "This will give you an idea on how much things have changed in the Busch Series," Bodine said. "I won my first career Busch race at Dover in the spring of 1991. The win purse paid $19,225. When I won at California six years later, the win purse paid $67,200. I think that pretty well explains how much our series has changed." Bodine says he hopes to keep adding to that total as he continues his quest for a Busch Series championship. "We've accomplished a lot and we want to keep adding more," Bodine said. "We want to get this Phillips 66 team in victory lane a few times this year and give those guys leading the points a good run for the championship. We have a lot more races left this year and anything can happen."
