LYSOL 200 PIT NOTES SATURDAY, JUNE 27, 1998
BUSCH GRAND NATIONAL PRACTICE SESSIONS
BORIS SAID (# 12 Zippo Manufacturing Chevrolet) - The car feels real good, even though its a little tight handling, but this is my first time in a Busch car. I did drive a Winston West event in Las Vegas. (What did you learn from your experience here in the Craftsman Truck Series Parts America 150?) Go when they tell you to go. This deal came together three to four weeks ago, and I'm happy because I've got a really good car.
JASON JARRETT (#32 White Rain Ford) - My practice session wasn't bad - not as good as our test session here though, but we were on older tires. In qualifying, we'd like to be in the top 20, which wouldn't be bad for my first time on a road course. If you qualify in the top 20 you'll have a chance of finishing in the top 20. (On road course experience and help from his father, Dale Jarrett) He's been a lot of help. He was here for one day of testing, and he's done good at Sears Point - qualified third.;
ANDY SANTERRE (#47 Monro Muffler Chevrolet) - We're running well. I think we were 7th fastest, so hopefully we'll qualify in the top five. (On the team's transition to Busch Series) - We've been working really hard, but we've got a good bunch of guys on the team. We'll keep getting better. (On the rookie points standings with Matt Hutter no longer in the 36 car) It doesn't really affect me that much. Matt and I have swapped the points lead back and forth a couple of times. I would just as soon see him stay in the race.
J. D. GIBBS (#44 Carolina Turkey Pontiac) -- Crashed heavily in the inner loop during the second practice session.. I don't know what happened. I came out of the Inner Loop there, and I caught air. It just started sliding out from under me and I couldn't get a hold of it. We were just starting a qualifying lap, so its discouraging, because we didn't have any problems in testing. But we'll get the back-up car out and we've got a provisional. I have no idea what to expect during qualifying, but we'll just get the feel of things and if it's going well, we'll pick things up a little bit. It's a shame because I love the track. It's just a learning experience.
ERIC BODINE (#21 Bully Hill Chevrolet) - The first practice session I only got a 1/2 lap in so I don't know what to expect. It's a new car and new motor. My goal for the weekend is to qualify. I may get a provisional, but I just want to qualify.
