Wayne Grubb resigned from Grubb Motorsports on Monday, three days after failing to qualify the No. 83 Link-Belt Cranes Chevrolet for the Autolite/Fram 250 at Richmond International Raceway.

Grubb's decision comes after he qualified for just 15 NASCAR Busch Series races this year and finished no higher than 15th in any of them. He is 36th in the driver standings.

"We haven't had a good season at all," Grubb said. "We've tried so many different things to try and make this team a competitive force, and it seems like the driver is the one thing we have left to try and change."

The family-owned team said a replacement driver will be named later this week.

Grubb drove in select NASCAR Busch Series events for Grubb Motorsports in 1997. He made the field for 16 events the following year and was the top rookie in a race five times, but his momentum failed to carry over to 1999, when he suffered a fractured shoulder in the opening race.
