BUSCH, COMBOS IMPROVE RECORD TO 4-1
Combos Driver Leads Twice For 191 Laps To Score Dominating Victory At Dover
Kyle Busch and Combos improved their record to 4-1 with a dominating victory in Saturday's Heluva Good! 200 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Dover (Del.) International Speedway.
Busch, driver of the No. 18 Combos Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR), led twice for 191 of 205 laps en route to his 34th career Nationwide Series victory, his fourth of the season and his second at Dover.
"It feels good," said Busch, who started from the pole for the 20th time in his Nationwide Series career. "This Combos Toyota was awesome. We had a great car and all we did was just make sure we adjusted on it right and kept it out front and kept it in clean air."
Busch and Combos are now four-for-five together, for in addition to Saturday's win at Dover, the 'Combo' won Sprint Cup Series races in June 2008 at Dover and May 2009 at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway, while also winning a Nationwide Series race earlier this season at Phoenix International Raceway. A second-place finish in June 2009 in the Nationwide Series race at The Milwaukee Mile in West Allis, Wis., serves as the only 'loss,' for Busch and Combos.
All told, with Combo's serving as primary sponsor, Busch has led 640 of 1455 possible laps.
"I'm not sure why we've been so successful with Combos," Busch said. "Everyone from Mars -- M&M's, Doublemint, Snickers, Pedigree, Combos -- they've been such great partners for us. I'm glad we get to take them to victory lane. This is just another product of Joe Gibbs Racing and all the guys that work so hard, everybody at the shop that does a great job for us. The preparation was there. When we unloaded, we unloaded good. We just tweaked on it. That's what it takes. The better you can come off the truck -- the better your weekend seems to be overall."
Busch now has 68 career victories across NASCAR's top three divisions (Sprint Cup -- 17, Nationwide -- 34, Camping World Truck 17). He is third all-time on the Nationwide Series win list behind Mark Martin (48) and Kevin Harvick (36).
Finishing 1.280 seconds behind Busch was Ryan Newman. Jamie McMurray was third, while Reed Sorenson and Jason Leffler rounded out the top-five. Kevin Harvick, Brad Keselowski, Greg Biffle, Brian Scott and Colin Braun comprised the rest of the top-10.
The race featured six caution periods for 25 laps, with 15 drivers failing to finish event, which went five laps past its scheduled distance due to a green-white-checkered finish.
While Busch is not running the full Nationwide Series schedule, JGR's No. 18 Toyota is competing for the owner's title. Thanks to Busch's win, the No. 18 picked up one spot to climb to second in points after round 11 of 35, where it is 11 markers behind the No. 22 car of Penske Racing. JGR has won the past two Nationwide Series owner's championships.
The next event on the Nationwide Series schedule is the May 29 Tech-Net Auto Service 200 at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway.
