Coleman Carries Momentum to Gateway; Joe Gibbs Racing driver back in the No.18 in St. Louis
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (July 12, 2010) - In just three races, Brad Coleman has generated significant personal momentum by consistently qualifying the Joe Gibbs Racing No.18 NASCAR Nationwide Series car up front and running in the Top-5.
As of his last race he was ranked in the Top-15 in miles lead this season despite running only three of the 15 Nationwide Series races. More importantly, he kept the No.18 team second in the Team Owner's Championship race while Kyle Busch was not in the car.
His last outing was at Road America three weeks ago where he won the Wix Filter laps leader award and posted a sixth place finish. He believes Gateway holds a real opportunity.
"Last year at Gateway we lost the clutch halfway through the race and that made it a real challenge, but as always, the JGR team stepped up," said Coleman. "After starting 15th, we worked our way into the Top-10 when a rock caused the clutch to go out. I had to shut off the car during pit stops and the crew would have to push me back out every time. It was crazy, but very rewarding when we still brought home a Top-5."
Coleman's history at Gateway shows promise. In addition to the Top-5 from 2009, he finished third in his ARCA race at Gateway in 2006, and in his 2007 Nationwide Rookie season, had his Joe Gibbs Racing car running sixth much of the evening until he was caught up in a late-race incident that relegated him to a 27th place finish.
The young Texan likes the track at Gateway and is thankful for the opportunity to be back behind the wheel.
"Gateway is a drivers track and one of the most exciting places to strap on a helmet," said Coleman. "I am appreciative that Joe Gibbs Racing, Kyle Busch and SafeWay Driving Centers are making this race possible for me. People just don't realize all that goes into providing opportunities in this sport and I am thankful every single time I get to drive."
Coleman added, "SafeWay Wins Gateway" sounds like a good headline to me!"
