When Patrick Carpentier and the Lipton Dodge roll into Talladega Superspeedway for this weekend's 117-lap event, it will be his third start this season in the Nationwide Series and his first restrictor plate race in the series.

Carpentier and the No. 9 crew are coming off a strong run at the road course in Mexico City. The team spent the majority of the race inside the top-10 and finished fifth. The finished bumped the No. 9 Lipton Dodge up five spots in Owner Points to 10th.

TV and Radio Times: Qualifying is set for Friday at 5:00 p.m. (ET) on SPEED and MRN Radio. Race time: Saturday at 3 p.m. (ET) on ABC and MRN Radio.

PATRICK CARPENTIER:

TALK ABOUT YOUR STONG RUN LAST WEEK "I knew we had a good car from the beginning of the race but we suffered through a hot engine all day. Towards the end of the race it just lost too much power for us to be able to run up front like we were. I wanted to get a strong finish for the crew so I didn't force anything and drifted back to where I could get some cool air to the engine.

"To come out of Mexico with a top-five finish is huge for us. I knew we had a car capable of this finish. To get a strong run with the engine running hot says a lot about the capabilities of this team."

ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO TALLADEGA? "I think it will be a neat experience. I have been watching a lot of the races on DVD. All I can say is 'wow'! It looks like so much fun. My teammate, Elliott Sadler says it takes a few years off your life every time you go there. I pray we can keep all four wheels on the ground.

"I'm going to try and continue the strong run we had last week. We'll be realistic and smart. I still have a lot to learn about racing in the draft and the last thing I want to do is get caught up in a big wreck. But you don't always have a choice on that. So we'll be respectful and try to keep the car clean. Hopefully by the end we'll still be hanging around in a position for a good finish.

"I'm glad to be getting a chance to run both the Nationwide race. The more experience and time I spend in the draft, the better. It's still a learning experience but we also want to do well for our friends a Lipton. On a track like this you never know what's going to happen."

NOTES
