BIFFLE COMES FROM THE BACK OF THE PACK TO FINISH SEVENTH
FT. WORTH, Texas. (April 19, 2010) -- After spinning out in qualifying, Greg Biffle had to start from the 42nd position in Saturday's O'Reilly 300 at Texas Motor Speedway. By lap 35 Biffle had maneuvered his way into the top 10 , where he would run for the remainder of the race. Despite running in the top 5 for over 80 laps, a loose race car caused the veteran driver to slowly fall back during the last green-flag run and force him to settle for his fourth straight top-10 finish in the Red Man Moist Snuff Ford.
"The Red Man Moist Snuff Ford Fusion was really fast all race long," said Biffle. "The track began to loosen as the race went along and we made some adjustments to tighten the car for the last run at the end. We thought the adjustments would allow us to make a run at the leaders, but the car was just way to loose and we slid back a few spots."
When NASCAR threw the competition caution on lap 25, Biffle had made his way to the 14th position. He communicated to crew chief Rick Viers that the balance of the Red Man Moist Snuff Ford Fusion was perfect, and he didn't need any adjustments. When he came down pit road, the Red Man Racing crew put four fresh tires on, filled it with fuel and returned him to the mile-and-a-half track.
When the race restarted, The Vancouver, WA continued to make his way through the pack and into the top 10. On lap 95 Biffle made his way into the top 5, where he would remain for the next 74 laps. He was running in the third position when the final caution of the race occurred on lap 169.
Biffle communicated to Viers that the car was beginning to get free and needed a few adjustment to tighten his No. 27. When Red Man Moist Snuff Ford Fusion came down pit road, the Red Man Racing crew put on four fresh tires, filled it with fuel, made a wedge and trackbar adjustment and returned the former Nationwide Series champion to the track in the 10th position.
Once the race went back to green-flag conditions, Biffle made his way from 10th to fourth in seven laps. As the final green-flag run went along, Biffle communicated to Viers that the car became extremely loose and he slowly drifted out of the top 5 in the races final laps.
Scott Wimmer will be in the Red Man Moist Snuff Ford next Saturday, April 24th, when the series heads to Talladega Superspeedway for the Aaron's 312. Biffle, who currently ranks eighth in the NASCAR Nationwide Series point standings, will return to the No. 27 for the Bubba Burger 250 at Richmond International Raceway on April 30th.
