Cameron Hayley ready for full-time truck ride
Canadian standout to pilot No. 13 ThorSport Racing Tundra.
Cameron Hayley will drive the No. 13 ThorSport Racing Toyota Tundra in the Camping World Truck Series.
Veteran crew chief Jeff Hensley will oversee the rookie's transition into NCWTS. Cabinets by Hayley will sponsor the truck.
"It's always been a dream of mine to run in one of NASCAR's top three series," said Cameron Hayley in a release. "I was able to get my feet wet last year running a few races, but to be able to say I'm running full-time this year is really a chance to live out my dream."
The 18-year-old Calgary, Alberta native competed in three truck races last season for Turner Scott Motorsports. Hayley’s best finish was sixth at New Hampshire Motor Speedway but he had a remarkable average qualifying effort of 5.7 and average finish of ninth.
In two Canadian Tire Series starts, Hayley posted top 10 finishes in each. He’s completed three full seasons in the K&N Pro Series and earned one win in 2013 on the West tour and finished second in the point standings. On the East tour last year, Hayley also finished second in the standings with seven top-fives and nine top 10 finishes in 16 starts.
Based in Sandusky, Ohio, ThorSport Racing is the longest-running truck operation dating back to 1996.
"I'll make the move to Sandusky later this year so I can be in the shop every day, helping the guys, and really getting to know these trucks," Hayley added. "I want to take full advantage of everything ThorSport Racing has to offer, soaking everything in this season.
"Duke and Rhonda Thorson have built a championship-winning team with great resources and equipment and it's an honor to be a part of their organization."
Hayley joins the 2013 and 2014 truck series driver champion Matt Crafton, who drives the No. 88 Menards Tundra and veteran racer Johnny Sauter, the pilot of the No. 98 Nextant/Carolina Nut/Curb Records Tundra.
"Cameron has seen success at an early age and has been a great student of the sport," said team owner, Duke Thorson. "He has a wealth of natural talent, a great personality and we believe he's the complete package.
"By making the move to live in Sandusky full-time, he's proven that he's fully vested in this team and the opportunity he's been given. Being at the shop every day, learning these trucks and building a foundation with his team is what will set him apart from the competition. Everyone at ThorSport Racing is anxious to see him evolve on the race track this season."
