Van Wieringen, who finished ninth in the East series standings with the help of three top-five finishes to close the season, will drive the No. 02 Ford fielded by an alliance between her Rette Jones Racing team and Young’s Motorsports.

Her resume

This season, the 21-year-old student at UNC Charlotte became the first female in series history to earn three consecutive top-five finishes. Her best finish of the season was third in two of the final three races (Greenville, S.C., and Dover, Del.).

“I’m very humbled by this opportunity to make my Truck Series debut at Phoenix,” said Van Wieringen. “We’ve been working hard on this project since the checkered flag flew at Dover in October and I’m excited to go to Phoenix and see what we can do.”

Van Wieringen, a native of Amherstburg, Ontario, Canada, moved to her first season of competition in NASCAR after a successful run in Late Models. She was the first female driver to win an Outlaw Super Late Model championship in the United States and still holds the record at Winchester (Ind.) Speedway for the most laps led (74) by a female competitor.

Team owner comments

Her K&N East team owner, Mark Rette, said he was excited to see what Van Wieringen could do in a Truck.

“We wouldn’t be going to Phoenix if we didn’t think Dominique could do a good job,” he said. “Our goal is to just get her some laps, earn some respect and see the checkered flag.

“Dominique proved she is a phenomenal short track racer in K&N this year and with Phoenix having that short track mentality, I think her adjustment to the Trucks will be quick and she’ll find her groove easy.”
