Bobby Dotter and the ACME/People Against Drugs Chevrolet had a busy yet productive afternoon in practice and qualifying sessions in preparation for the MBNA America 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event at the Dover International Speedway.
"In the early sessions, we just could not find the combination that gave me the feel I was looking for in the truck," Dotter said. "It felt like the track was a little bumpier than it was last year, and it took us by surprise."
"We worked and worked at it and finally got that drivability I was looking for," Dotter continued.
Dotter and the Green Light Racing team welcome aboard ACME, an Albertson's company, for this weekend's race. Instead of carrying the team's trademark blue numbers and logos, the truck this week is adorned with red numbers and lettering.
"We are very excited to have the ACME people here with us this weekend," Dotter said. "We are working hard to give them something exciting to watch on Friday, and it looks like we should give them some as we work our way to the front. They have a lot of signage here at the track and we are really excited to have them on board here with us this weekend."
Dotter will start 23rd in the MBNA America 200, but says the starting position is just that, a place to start.
"We look forward to a good run in the race," he said. "I think we will have a little different weather for tomorrow, and that could really throw a monkey wrench into how the race unfolds. We need to be careful yet aggressive when we get the green flag. You would think there would be a lot of attrition here, but we can't count on that. We finished 15th here last year, the first truck one lap down but we really had to race hard for that 15th. The competition this year is even greater.
"Last year, we were a little conservative at the beginning and found ourselves a lap down early. Once we got mixed in with the leaders, we ran with them the rest of the day. The plan this year is to work our way to the front and stay up with them all day long. If the changes we made throughout the day do to the truck what we think they will do, we should be in the mix when the checkered flag falls. We need to race hard from the get go and see how we end up."
The MBNA America 200 will take the green flag at 3:30 PM and can be seen live on ESPN. MRN Radio will have the broadcast from Dover International Speedway at 3:00 PM.
