Tim Steele will not be present during the weekend at Evergreen Speedway. Instead, the driver of the No. 21 HS Die/Softech Ford is in a Florida hospital recuperating from an operation to remove kidney stones.

"Tim had another kidney stone attack earlier this week," a team spokesperson said.

"Tim had heard of the new laser technique they're using in some areas of the country and he flew to Florida on Tuesday night. The procedure took place ... on Wednesday afternoon and doctors discovered that Tim had four stones.

The procedure went off as scheduled. Steele is sore and will remain under doctor's care throughout the weekend. He has been bothered by recurring bout with kidney stones during the past few years. His ability to race during times he has fought kidney stones has gone a long way toward earning him the nickname "the Man of Steele."

Rick Carelli, driver of the No. 6 RE/MAX Chevrolet, may have a slight advantage over four other drivers vying for a $100,000 bonus Saturday during the NAPACARD 200. That bonus will be awarded if one of five drivers to have started every NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race -- including Carelli -- wins on Saturday.

Carelli's secret weapon may be that he has already won big money at Evergreen. In 1993, on his way to the NASCAR Winston West Series championship, he held off NASCAR Winston Cup Series star Ken Schrader to win the Coors 500, which paid off with a $50,000 check and a new Harley-Davidson.Grainger has agreed to become the title sponsor of this season's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race in Portland, Ore., on June 18. The Grainger 225 will be broadcast on ESPN ET.

Grainger sponsors Greg Biffle in Roush Racing's No. 50 Ford. Biffle's home track is Portland International Raceway.

Greg Merideth, a jackman for the No. 3 Chevrolet of Jay Sauter, has a lot in common with the five drivers trying to claim a $100,000 bonus: he has participated in 99 of the 100 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races.

Ironically, the only event the Fancy Gap, Va., resident missed was at Evergreen in 1998. He had a good excuse, though: his wife April was graduating from college to become a nurse.
