Justin Haley tops first Truck practice at Pocono Raceway

Justin Haley jumped to the top of the speed chart in the closing minutes of first practice for the Camping World Truck Series at Pocono Raceway on Friday.

The rookie posted a lap of 169.632mph (53.056-seconds) in the final 10-minutes to knock Kyle Busch off the top of the board. Busch’s lap of 169-.046mph was second quick followed by Kaz Grala, Christopher Bell, Noah Gragson, Johnny Sauter, Ben Rhodes, John Nemechek, Ryan Truex and Chase Briscoe.

Austin Cindric wadded up the rear of his truck in Turn 1 during the opening minutes of practice after just two laps on the track. His best lap was 163.842 mph among six trucks. The No. 19 BK Racing team pulled out a back-up truck as practice resumed just before the 15-minute mark. Cindric never returned back on the track.

Kyle Busch had the fastest truck will practice continued with a lap of 168.856mph. Bell (168.401mph) was second followed by Grala (167.165mph), Truex (166.883mph), Sauter (166.799mph), Gragson, Coughlin, Crafton, Haley and Rhodes.

Grant Enfinger was 11th-quick in the first 20 minutes.

“Our entry is pretty good,” says Enfinger. “I could probably drive harder than that.”

Bell jumped to the top of the board 29-minutes into the session with a lap of 168.903mph after six laps. Busch remained second followed by Krala, John Hunter Nemechek (167.119mph), Sauter, Gragson, Coughlin, Rhodes and Crafton.

“I’m still pretty free into 1 and 3,” Crafton said after seven laps. “It’s start chattering off of 3 and I’m not able to get to the throttle, but it’s good in the tunnel.”

Sauter moved up to third on the chart with a lap of 167.729mph after 11 circuits. Gragson (167.498mph) and Grala (167.165mph) with 20 minutes remaining.

“This thing is good, I’m telling you,” Sauter said.

Busch returned to the top of the chart with 15 minutes to go. Busch ran three additional laps with a top speed of 169.046mph. Bell dropped to second followed by Sauter, Rhodes, Gragson, Grala, Nemechek, Truex, Coughlin and Haley. Twenty-three trucks posted times.
