NEW DRIVERS TOPS IN FINAL NASCAR CRAFTSMAN TRUCK SERIES PRACTICE
Thirty-One Drivers Still Ahead Of Series Track Record Qualifying
SPARTA, KY. -- The story was the same, but the names changed during the final NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series practice for tonight's "Built Ford Tough 225 Presented by The Greater Cincinnati Ford Dealers" at Kentucky Speedway as 31 drivers remained ahead of the series track qualifying record set by Jon Wood at 169.641 mph (31.832 seconds) in 2003.
New names on top of the speed chart were those of three-time series champion Jack Sprague (No. 16 Chevy Trucks Chevrolet), who led the session with a quick lap of 176.028 mph (30.677 seconds), Darrell Waltrip Racing driver David Reutimann (No. 17 NTN Bearings Toyota), who was second quickest in the session after turning his fast lap at 175.439 (30.780 seconds), and defending race winner Bobby Hamilton (No. 04 Bailey's Dodge), who was third fastest in the session with a 175.211-mph (30.820 seconds) lap.
"The Chevy Trucks Chevrolet was pretty good," said Sprague, who was fourth in yesterday's practice session with a 174.605-mph (30.297 seconds) lap. "It was good yesterday and it got better today. I really feel we have a good shot at sitting on the Bud Pole and hopefully winning the race. I feel like the truck is pretty strong."
Rick Crawford flew the banner for the Ford camp with a 174.910-mph (30.873 seconds) lap in the session that was good for fourth fastest.
"We made a run this morning trying to repeat what the track had done last night," said Crawford, who eighth in yesterday's session and we actually got a little bit faster. I guess with the ARCA race (last night), the track got a little bit more grip. I don't know if we have a shot at the pole, there are a couple of them that are a little bit quicker than we are.
"This is 'The Built Ford Tough 225 Presented by The Greater Cincinnati Ford Dealers' tonight. All of the Kentucky plants build nice Ford F-150s and Explorers. We really want to shine for the customers and for the people who build these trucks."
Tickets are still available for tonight's race at the speedway main entrance at Gates 15 and 16.
