Pennzoil Tripleheader Quotebook

LOUDON, N.H. (May 31, 1997) The following are selected driver quotes after final practice for the Pennzoil/VIPDiscount Auto Tripleheader at New Hampshire International Speedway.

JACK SPRAGUE No. 24 Quaker State Chevrolet

"The Quaker State Chevy was good today -- I just overdrove it (in the process Sprague became the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series first driver in the series' three years to win two straight superspeedway poles, having won the pole at Phoenix International Raceway in April. Sprague was one of 15 drivers who broke Mike Skinner's truck track qualifying record, set last September). I was disappointed because I knew I could run an (30.) 80. We didn't do too much to the truck for qualifying -- just a half (spring) rubber in the front different from what we'll race. The truck runs great every week and we just keep it simple -- nothing trick."

MIKE BLISS No. 2 Team ASE Ford

"We were a little bit loose there, but I didn't know which way to go. That will be good for the ASE Ford, starting up there."

TONY RAINES No. 19 Pennzoil Dodge

"I did pretty well for not running here before. The team ran here last year with this truck and were fast, so I'm benefiting from that. It's a nice track and the truck feels good, so we'll be all right."

RICH BICKLE No. 17 Sears DieHard Chevrolet

"The truck was loose -- slipping and sliding. It was no big deal and we'll race well."

BORIS SAID No. 44 Federated Auto Parts Ford

"That was pretty good. It was the best lap we ran all weekend. The Federated Auto Parts Ford is running great. It's a lot easier as we go with the guys helping me out and coaching me along: Qualifying, the race, everything. I talked to Ernie (Irvan) last night, and he gave me a few tips on qualifying, and it's really starting to pay off."

RON HORNADAY No. 16 NAPA Brakes Chevrolet

"We were real loose. We were running real good all day, but when we went to qualify there was a loose fitting or something and we were losing a little oil that go on a back tire. We were running in our own oil and sliding around a lot. Freddy Graves (crew chief) and the guys will have it right for the race."

JIMMY HENSLEY No. 43 Cummins Engine Company Dodge

"It wasn't a bad effort, but we thought we'd be in the top-10. I'm just a little disappointed in our qualifying time, but we've got a good race truck, and we'll give it our best."

TAMMY JO KIRK No. 7 Lovable Ford

"We were just a little bit looser than what I thought we were going to be. I figured we'd be a little bit tight, and I think with this cool-down we were just a little bit too loose. I was a little sideways coming off (the corners). I think that hurt me a little bit. But all in all, we had a good run. We're happy with it."

MICHAEL DOKKEN No. 18 Dana Dodge

"I don't understand it -- the truck's too good to go that slow. It felt really good. I don't know what happened."

BRANDON BUTLER No. 56 Husky Power Tools Dodge

"Well, it couldn't get much worse than it was today, what with a blown engine and the practice time we lost because of it. We made some changes and it felt pretty good, but it just didn't get the job done. I'm pretty upset with myself right now."

BOB KESELOWSKI No. 29 Mopar Performance Dodge

"Not too good. The set-up's not quite right, and so far we aren't sure what's wrong. We've got some more work to do."
