Another Top Ten For David Starr
Mansfield, Ohio...Expertly piloting his No. 75 Spears Manufacturing Chevy Silverado, top-ranked driver David Starr scored his second top ten finish of the season at the inaugural UAW/GM 250, Round 4 of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.
"The crew had our Chevy Silverado really hooked up this weekend," said Starr, who gained another four places in the overall point's battle. "We are now sitting in 14th place. All we need are a couple more strong finishes and we will be right up in the thick of things. One of the pluses we have going for us is being able to work closely with our fellow Chevrolet teams to maximize the resources and tools that Chevrolet is providing this season. It is an incredible bonus and is going to really help give us that necessary extra edge throughout this season."
With qualifying rained out, the field was gridded according to 2003 owner's points, putting Starr in 10th place on the Startline. When the Green Flag waved, he wasted no time in beginning his charge forward.
"It was really tough to pass," explained Starr. "When the race started, there was only one groove and that tends to make passing pretty difficult. Luckily for us, we got some good breaks and were able to move up without too many problems. Mansfield is a really quick track and you definitely have to stay totally focused and up on the wheel if you want to stay out of trouble."
And staying out of trouble is precisely what Starr did. Moving through the pack, he ran as high as 4th during the 250 lap race with 13 cautions and a late red flag due to a multi-truck wreck.
"We almost had a top-five," continues Starr, but there at the end, everyone was doing a bunch of beating and banging. Finishing under a Green, White, Checker, we went from a top-five finish back to ninth. That's what short track racing is all about. The fans here were really great and what an honor to be the first NASCAR event in Ohio in 50 years. This is a great track and we had a lot of fun racing out there today. Now we head for Charlotte and will give our best effort for Spears Manufacturing and Chevrolet."
