Starr on Returning to Memphis With the Defending Race Winners as His Team:
"In my opinion, there's no pressure on me going to Memphis -- at least no more than there is any other week in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. I think that the pressure is the same every time we got to a race track. Every week, we try to strive to do the best we possibly can do. We go to every race track with the mentality that we can win each and every week. And there's no difference this week as we head into Memphis. We have to approach every week the exact same way. I guess the main thing for me is this -- Jamie Jones and the Red Horse Racing team have good notes going into Memphis because they won last year. So we'll probably unload off the truck pretty good. I guess the only real difference is they have a different driver behind the wheel and we're taking a different truck. It's good to go to a race track where you know the team has won before. It gives the team a little bit more confidence. But you can't come into a race not having a lot of confidence. Hopefully, we can repeat what the Red Horse Racing team did from last year. We're going to strive to get to Victory Lane, but if we can't, we're going to hope for a solid top three or top five."
Starr on Short Tracks:
Starr and the Red Horse Racing Team have excelled at short tracks on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series schedule this season. The No. 11 Red Horse Racing Team won (Martinsville Speedway) and finished third (Mansfield Motorsports Speedway).
"This year, we have run well on short tracks and Memphis is another great short track. We just seem to run better on those type of tracks right now. My crew chief, Jamie Jones is the reason we excel on the short tracks. He knows how to make my Toyota turn in the center. The trucks just seem to be perfect for my driving style. I would have never thought that we would have won our first race together this season on a short track, but I hope that we can repeat on one next weekend."
Crew Chief Jamie Jones Talks About Returning to Memphis as the Defending Race Winners:
"It's always an honor to go back to a place that you've won at before, so we are looking forward to Memphis next weekend. That short track part of our program has been good all year. It was good when we had Brandon Whitt in the Red Horse Racing Toyota last season and it's been good with David Starr. Going back to Memphis, everything is pretty much the same. I think the team has a lot of confidence. We have David behind the wheel this year and the truck is a little different because the tire is a little different this year, but everything else is the same. We're going to Memphis with just as good a chance as anybody else to win this weekend."
Starr Makes Visit To ESPN Radio:
On Wednesday, Starr made a visit on ESPN Radio nationally where he discussed various issues ranging from topics such as the toughness of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series to the lack of sponsorship on his No. 11 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra.
"It was pretty cool being on the ESPN Radio show," said Starr. "I was able to discuss our season so far and the fact of how surprised everyone is that we do not have a sponsor on this No. 11 Tundra yet. I know times can be tough, but the caliber of this team and the professionalism with which it is run would represent a company very well. We ended the show by talking about our expectations for the second half of the season coming up. It is always neat to be on something big like ESPN Radio -- a true honor."
Notes:
* Starr will be making his 154th career start in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series this week at Memphis.
* Starr has four career victories (Las Vegas -- 2002, St. Louis and Phoenix -- 2004, Martinsville -- 2006).
