MILWAUKEE, WI (June 27, 2003) - Terry Cook scored his sixth career NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series pole position in qualifying for the GNC Live Well 200 at The Milwaukee Mile today.
"We made the right choice by bringing the Power Stroke ® Diesel/Oil Mate' Ford - Droopy Dog - that we won with at Milwaukee from pole position last season," said Cook. "It means a lot to start up front because this is a track that's hard to pass on and clean air is a huge advantage here. Pit stops are key and we will be relying on the Power Stroke ® Diesel Ford team heavily. These guys do a great job and the more pressure myself and this team's under, the better we are."
Cook pushed his No. 29 Power Stroke ® Diesel Ford to a lap of 30.001 seconds (119.996 miles per hour) on the one-mile Milwaukee oval. The Indianapolis, IN resident was 36th in line for qualifying in the 39-truck qualifying field.
"We ended up running only one lap with the No. 29 Power Stroke ® Diesel Ford for qualifying," said Cook. "I thought it was a bad lap and was surprised when crew chief Rick Ren came over the radio and said we had the pole. We had a plan that if we got the pole on the first lap we would abort the second. So when Rick was saying abort, abort, I was like your kidding me. Abort was our code word this week and next week it will have to be something different. Especially now that Carl Edwards and Brendan Gaughan know after our post race interviews."
Cook has five wins, 19 Top-5 finishes and 56 Top-10 finishes in 148 starts. Cook seeks his sixth career NCTS victory at the one-mile oval where he won from the pole in the 200-Lap event last season.
"As I said before, we have the same truck we won here with last season, but this time Goodyear has brought a different tire than what we had here last season," said Cook. "It's the same tire we ran at Memphis that we thought we had figured out. With this truck, once again we just have to work on figuring out the tires."
Cook and the No. 29 Power Stroke ® Diesel Ford team will take the green flag in the GNC Live Well 200 at The Milwaukee Mile Saturday, June 28 at 3 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The event will be telecast live on Speed Channel and broadcast live on MRN Radio nationwide.
