* Racing in Virginia is good for Wood, Roush Racing ... Jon Wood (No. 50 Roush Racing Ford), who hails from Stuart, Va., may want to start racing in Virginia every week. After finishing 22nd at the first Martinsville race this year, Wood hasn't finished outside of the top four in three other races in the Commonwealth. At Martinsville this past weekend, Wood scored his second victory of the season. In his two other races this year in Virginia (Richmond and South Boston), Wood finished fourth in both. Wood's teammate, Carl Edwards (No. 99 Superchips Ford), has finished in the top 10 in three of the four Virginia races, including a second-place finish behind Wood this past weekend. The win was the 280th for Roush Racing in NASCAR, dating back to 1984.

* Rookie wins Bud Pole ... Edwards captured his first pole of the season at Martinsville. The pole was the first for a Raybestos rookie contender in the series since 2000 (Kurt Busch). Edwards is one win and one top-five finish away from tying Busch's rookie record for wins (four) and top fives (13).

* Etc. ... Kvapil is coming off his second-worst finish of the season -- 16th. ... With his win at Martinsville on Oct. 18, Wood became the youngest short track winner in the series, just seven days shy of his 22nd birthday (Oct. 25). The previous youngest short track winner? Wood's teammate, Edwards (23 years, 11 months), at IRP in August. ... Darrell Waltrip (No. 17 Aaron's Sales & Lease Chevrolet) finished seventh at Martinsville, his second top-10 effort in three races this season.
