Cook, Power Stroke® Diesel Ford set for flat out win at Phoenix.
AVONDALE, AZ (November 5, 2002) - Terry Cook hopes driving the Power Stroke® Diesel Ford truck that has won three of four NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races this season will again prove to be the right combination as he takes on the flat, one-mile Phoenix International Raceway oval this Friday.
"We are taking our best truck - Droopy Dog - to Phoenix and we hope it will come through and win again," said Cook. "This truck is great on flat tracks winning at Milwaukee, New Hampshire and IRP earlier this season. Hopefully, we will unload at Phoenix and be able to put another 'W' in the victory column for Power Stroke Diesel Ford and this K-Automotive race team."
Cook's best previous NCTS finish at the Phoenix oval is the seventh-place effort he posted last season in the No. 29 Power Stroke Diesel Ford. His K-Automotive Motorsports team has five Top-10 finishes to their credit at PIR with fifth-place run listed as their best effort in 1999. Team owners Bob, Ron and Kay Keselowski are hoping the string of winning flat-track runs will continue Friday giving the team their 11th NCTS career victory.
"After a Top-10 finish at California last weekend, we have the momentum for a solid finish at Phoenix," said Cook. "We've dominated that type of track all year. These last two races at Phoenix and Homestead are really good tracks for our Power Stroke Diesel Ford program and we'd like nothing better than to end the season on a high note with a couple of victories."
Given "Droopy Dog" had a total of six Top-5 finishes this season, Cook knows he has the right truck to score his sixth career NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series victory. He also knows the win won't come easy at Phoenix, a mainstay on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series tour since the facility hosted the division's first-ever race February 5, 1995.
"Phoenix has held the greatest number of events (11) in NCTS history," said Cook. "It's a great track, but you have to be careful because you can overdrive the corners easily. You just have roll into and off the corners and try to stay on the bottom of the track. That's where you need to be all race long. The backstretch is pretty unique because it has a kink or a 'dogleg' in it. Phoenix is a very challenging and fun place to race."
The next-to-last race of the 22-event 2002 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season will take the green flag at Phoenix International Raceway Friday, November 8 at 3 PM Eastern Standard Time. The event will be telecast live on espn2 and will be broadcast worldwide on MRN Radio.
