Ron Hornaday Jr. to return to the Camping World Truck Series

JOLIET, Ill. – Ron Hornaday will return to the truck series, compliments of Rheem, in Las Vegas on Sept. 27 and at Texas Motor Speedway on Oct. 31.

The four-time truck champion was displaced last month after Turner Scott Motorsports elected to shut down the No. 30 team.

We all welcome Ron back and can’t wait to see him back in the saddle.

“Rheem is pleased to play a part in bringing Ron Hornaday back to where he belongs – that is, racing trucks to win and bringing excitement and enjoyment to Camping World Truck Series fans,” Ed Raniszeski, managing director, Rheem Motorsports said in a release on Saturday. “None of this would have been possible without the solid support of NTS Motorsports and RCR.

“We all welcome Ron back and can’t wait to see him back in the saddle.”

What a long, strange trip it's been

Hornaday, 56, has raced trucks for 17 of 20 seasons since the series debuted in 1995. He won his first title in 1996 and has posted 51 career wins, 158 top fives and 234 top 10 finishes in 357 starts.

"I've had a lot of success at Texas," Hornaday told Motorsport.com. "Las Vegas is a lot of fun. It's been hit or miss for me sometimes depending on how dusty the track is, but I've won there before and it's a fun track.

"I've been sitting out a few weeks. Did I lose it? (He laughs) We'll find out."

Hornaday was fourth in the point standings and had an 8.2 average finish this season before his truck was parked. He joked that he's made a lot of progress on his dirt cars during his sabbatical.

Rheem was the livery for Austin Dillon on the No. 20 Chevy truck in the Lucas Oil 225 at Chicagoland Speedway on Saturday.
